this is from the post by

[quote:67eca]The enigmatic Fallschirmjagergewehr 42 (FG42) was developed by the Luftwaffe without Hitler's approval after the 1941 debacle of Operation Merkur, wherein German paratroops on the island of Crete were badly mauled by long-range fire from well-dug-in British and NZ forces. Denied a normal path of development the the German Ordnance Office, the FG42 required virtually constant modification throughout its brief lifespan, and was actually produced in an estimated twenty different variations. Death From Above is the first in-depth study of all seven basic models of this most audacious and influential weapon of WW II, and includes illustrated translations of all three official Luftwaffe manuals issued for the FG42.
