Mods and pk3 files
Is there name convention for mods and pk3 file?
I mean are we obligated to put a prefix? |

Here's what I do:
User - Map - mapname.pk3 User - Skin - skinname.pk3 User - HUD - modname.pk3 etc, etc... All downloaded pk3 files need to have User at the beginning to ensure they load last. |
Okay that's is what I thought but I wasn't sure... But I have a map that doesn't have user in the name and it's working...

It won't (I believe) if the name starts with a letter before P. The Pak0-Pak6 files need to load first, followed by any downloaded pk3 files.

Really? I must be wrong then. I thought for sure the native pk3 files needed to load first. Oh well. I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again...
The naming convention I posted earlier does make it easier to find particular mods if you have to. That I'm sure of! |
It´s easier to mess up the engine if you don´t have user- before the modname. (+ easier to find and delete it)
It could work or not, BUT it´s much safer to add user- to it. Add it by yourself, nothing can happen and you are sure that MOH reads it correctly! |
If your mod name starts with a letter less than "p", it may work perfectly. This is how it works: files are uncompressed alphabetically. When a file is uncompressed, if their contents already existed, they are overwritten; if not, there's no problem.
Thus, if you install a replacement for the default compass, the file contents are the original game files edited; if its named, say, compass.pk3, those edited files would be overwritten when the pak files are uncompressed, and thus the mod apparently doesn't work (though it's being uncompressed); you should name it user-compass.pk3 (for example) so that it gets uncompressed after the pak files thus replacing the original contents with the modified ones. I am the Maker of the Malta custom map for Spearhead. It wont let you use user infront of the custom maps. Maybe its because Malta really isnt custom but buy naming it mp_malta_dm it puts it right into place for the game to recognize. My clan runs a dedicated server and the map is in its rotation and works fine (other then most people dont have it and get booted). Even admins have no prob. changing to it thru rcon. Like I said could just be the way spearhead is or it could be just that one map.
