ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Problems...
i usually wouldnt post a Vid Card problems here, but this one has me stumped. I recently replaced my GeForce 2 MX400 64MB Card with an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB Card in hopes for a better FrameRate while playing Spearhead. I uninstalled the NVidia drivers and then installed the ATI Software (replacing cards of course). With the GF2 card, i had an FPS of 20 to 40. With the ATI, i am now getting an FPS of 10 to 30. I have changed all the settings for max Performance, so i have no idea what the deal is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks. |
Usually when I replace a piece of Hardware like a videocard, I reformat. I had a 3dfx card, and put in a GF2, and even tho I uninstalled the drivers, I still had problems. A format solved the issue. When I upgraded to a TI4400, I just formatted right away and I didnt have any problems. Especially since you switched video card brands, I would recommend trying to format, that'll probably help you out quite a bit.

thanks. i would like to avoid this. if there is any other possible problems that could be fixed, id appreciate it if ya know anything. but ill reformatt if that will help.
thanks again. |
Sorry I cut out on you in TS. I got a popup that crashed my PC...pisses me off...
Anyways, as I was saying, all my card options are set to "Balanced" and "Application Preference". I get fps between 50-100 usually, some maps drop to the yellow and red zone if there's a lot going on. As Nacho_Man said, it could be driver conflicts, although I swapped out my GF4 Ti4400 for the 9700 Pro without reformatting and had no problems. Maybe XP does a better job of uninstalling? I've got (for comparison): AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1024MB RAM ATI Radeon 9700 Pro XP Home If I come across anything concrete I'll pass it on... |
I just talked to a friend of mine, and he said try ruuning a program called "Detonator Destroyer" or somethin like that. You may have uninstalled the drivers but it might not have gotten rid of them all. He said you can try running this program, or otherwise format. He doesnt know where to find it, so you can look on like Nvidia's site or somethin, Im not sure. Anyway, good luck and I hope this helps.
