This smells like political correctness :/

Special Showing Shut Down?
Out in California a special showing of the 1970 movie Tora, Tora, Tora, which had been scheduled for Dec. 7, has been canceled and veterans groups smell political correctness. The showing was set for a World War II era theater in the town of San Pedro, and the film was selected because the joint U.S.-Japanese production is considered historically accurate. But Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn decided that showing it would have been insensitive. "Dec. 7," she said, "is a tough day, especially for second and third generations of Japanese Americans. Why do we want to do something that makes it more difficult?"

no wonder modern history was never offered in school

Totenkopf 12-04-2002 05:34 PM

That's f#cking sad. I remember in school we watched that on December 7th, I thought it was pretty darn cool of our history teacher.

I had summer school a couple years ago (yea I guess I shouldn't miss so many days) and I don't really remember much of the "learning" part of the class but we watched alot of movies that mentioned a historical moments.

-SPR
-U571
-Patriot
-Joan of Arc
-1492
-Tora,Tora,Tora
-Blue Streak (that was for enjoyment )
-and many others... almost makes me wanna fail the regular year!

well, heres another blow to our society.

teh kids these days need to be force fed war movies in school, so they get it through their thick skulls that if these people didn't sacrfice for them they would all be goose-stepping instead of watching and listening to so called movies and music.

I was at work today and an old timer came in my checkout lane and was telling me about invasion money and stuff, he was my most important customer all night...I have more respect for WW2 veterans than any other people alive (except my parents)

What the fuck is your teacher on? That film just gives Americans credit for British actions. Historically accurate my ass.

Innoxx 12-05-2002 02:08 AM

Yeah, 80% of teachers out there are shitheads who are just guessing their way through. Like, my grade 9 french teacher was teaching us from a french-english/english-french dictionary, I could've went home and done that!

Where do you work, OR?

I get this one Vet into the video store that I work in, usually up really early, like 6am, just as I'm clocking off. He comes in and rents old war films...Very friendly old guy. Because of my late hours, he's like my only regular.

Von Paulus 12-05-2002 05:43 AM

Aww Trip, that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside... I'm not being sarcastic, that sounds so utterly cool... You've got a sweet 'n sensitive side to you, that has just come out...

Man, I can imagine sitting watching old war films with a guy that actually fought in the battles portrayed, an outer body experience sortof thing, that'd be so cool...

To the above comment about kids being forced to watch war movies, I disagree... I think documentaries are much more important... Kids just watch movies like Saving Private Ryan for the gore, to get a kick out of guns firing etc...

We were watching it in History, kids would just talk whenever they were talking on-screen, and then pay attention when someone got shot in the head "AHH BOOM!!! SEE THAT GUYS HEAD EXPLODE!?!?!? KABOOM!!!"... That is not the reaction I like to see... While I'm there, sheding a few tears...

And if that wasn't bad enough, when we were watching Band of Brothers, some fucknut had the balls to abuse one of the veterans who gives interviews at the start... Luckily the kid was a little skinner so I belted him a few times... Teacher didn't mind angel:

Just make sure that you show movies based on fact, not some movie where "Johnny Stars and Stripes" takes out 1,000 troops and half a panzer division on his own. And we probably wouldn't be goosestepping, since most americans are fat fucks and can't lift their legs of the ground. fire2:
