Will having a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 card make a difference?

See subject. will there be a difference as compared to the sound chip on my mobo? and i'd still like to stick to 2 speakers.

Does it have hardware acceleration? You get better quality sound, thats what the sound card is for. Also the more the card has the less stress it is on your processor since the card is taking care of it.

I got a SOUNDCARD over the weekend....

DIDNT DO A WHOLE LOT OF SHIT! It's sound. I mean really. Good speakers will give me ALL the fucking AMBIENCE I need. Honestly. If the card is cheap and you REALLY need to hear that extra "drip" or "twang"....go nuts.

The major difference is between on board and not on board. I would think if its not an on board card, you're fine with whatever. I doubt it would make that much of a diff. But I hvae an onboard card and I have a lot of problems with it.

Look, just disable the on-board AC97 sound card and buy the "SB Live! 5.1".
You will thank me later...
