fixing a DVD.ROM drive.
Ok my DVD rom drive is messed up. it stops working while there is a disk in the drive, and when I go to my computer, the icon is not there. can anyone help me fix it?
|
this worked for me awhile back. go to start/ control panel/ system/ hardware/ device manager and click on dvd/cd-rom drives. then uninstall your cd-rom. once that is done, reboot and widows will detect it if in fact it still works.

Ok, if it is an internal drive, then try what Pelo suggested. If that doesn't work, then you will have to open up your PC case (if you don't know what you are doing then DO NOT attempt this). You will have to switch ribbon cables to see if this is the problem (many of the times it is). Now, if you use a new ribbon cable and the drive is still not recognizable, check to see if the power light is coming on and the disk inside is spinning. If there is no power try switching power cables (you should have a couple extra ones in the case). If none of these steps work, then it is most likely a hardware problem within the drive. The drive should be under warranty, so the manufacturer will be able to repair or replace your drive, you will only have to pay for shipping.
Dvd drives are not as fragile as, say a hard drive, but the drives can be damaged very easily from minimal electricity or physical abuse. Hope this helps. |
Move this!!
