Just got BF 1942 need suggestions to cope with bad fps
 

Hey guys. I just got Bf 1942 full version finally. woot! i was wondering though. can those who have had it for a while and know how to tweak the graphics tell me why my game is so laggy? i have the video set to medium...and res is 800x600. my specs are p4 1.5 ghz cpu / 512 pc800 rd ram / radeon 7500 128mb . is there something in the video options i should uncheck to improve performance? is it my vid card? i mean it is really choppy...sometimes its like a slide show! my pings are outstanding though...so it must be a hardware issue..my guess is that bf doesnt like radeon cards. any suggestions? ty J

Step 1: Upgrade to v 1.2. It will fix many problems.

heh i forgot to mention i did get that patch...damnit i forgot to put that in there, but yes sw i have the patch. and i got that new coral sea map also. so no the patch didnt fix it. im still experiencing tremendous fps drop...its almost unplayable. plz help

Do you have "hardware acceleration" checked in the sound options tab? Your video card might be a little weak, but try putting the texture details at medium and uncheck all of those fancy things like environment mapping.

rgr sw i will try that now...i dont think hardware accel is on . i will check...ill report back here in a minute with the verdict. btw im gonna try that desert combat mod..iremember your post about it couple weeks ago. it looks awesome

yea! i turned it down to low...i clicked off everything extra....and it works great now...just dont have clean cool looking graphics. but it will do until i get a better card. i guess i should have tried this before posting this topic like an idiot. oh well live and learn, at least i can play the game now woot! btw i was on the DOA server and i led the allies in kills 38 kills and 12 deaths. not bad for a noob. in fact thats what "heywood jeblowme" told me LMAO biggrin:

How is the sniping in that game?

i dont like it, id be standing still with the guy right in my crosshair & it would miss eek: . its impossible to hit moving people too.

yah the rifle is horrible and to snipe someone u have to be like 2 feet away from them and sometimes ustill miss

Yea sniping is pretty useless. I capped about 4 shots into someones head, they didn't even flinch. They turn and shot me, 1 shot and I'm down? oOo:

I like flying the planes and tanks basically. I remember I bought 1 gamepad and a new joystick, but nothing would work. Finally I started gettin the hang of my keyboard and mouse, and well, I fly really good now.

Took me months to figure this out, but trust me:

3 words: UNINSTALL SERVICE PACK!

If you have Win2000, get rid of SP3. If you have XP, get rid of SP1. Then, install the hotfixes, the latest video card drivers, DX8 or 9, then run the game. Take my word man.

joe are you serious? that sounds like a wacky thing to do...anyways i turned everything down and it works fine now, i just have to have a better vid card to turn up settings in future.
