Computer Monitors and games

Well I've heard that LCD and flat screens CRTs are not very good with games as the normal hunker monitors that weigh a ton...is this true?

LCDs = hard on the eyes for long periods of time. IMO

Flat-screen CRTs (what I have) I think are great. You just need to make sure you get one with a glass shield. Sony monitors are good. Make sure you check the model number, the higher the number, the better the resolution. You can tell a monitor has a glass shield, because the screen will look like it is set back about half an inch from the glass. (because it is)

LCD monitors have one default resolution, so depending on your video card, the images on an LCD can be less than stellar. The older ones had a bad refresh rate and left "trails". The newer LCD's are "TV capable" so that is not so much of a problem, anymore. In short, if you have a basic video card, stay with the CRT monitors. If you have a stellar card, the LCD monitor should be fine.

What is the flat screen CRT you own?

I prefer the flat-tubes, but not the perfectly flats. I have the Phillips Brillance 201P (23" of glory!) biggrin:

The Hercules flat panel is awesome, only LCD good enough for gaming/movies, I personally don't have one, but I've seen/used them at LANs and stuff, good schit.

They're good old, I've used a few, I've seen Dell 17 inchers for $120 if you got no cash.

Mine cost 700, and it's 23".

I'm sure its down to like 600 now.

I have a 22" Viewsonic Super Flat with a trinitron tube. It's the bomb. Try to stick with a CRT that has a trinitron tube. Most lcd's aren't that good for gaming unless you get a high dollar Planar or Sony. They tend to have problems with shadows and detail in the backround can be tough to distinguish. You could always go with the 42" Plasma. lol
