Yeah, it got to me too http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/frown.gif
Brings tears to my eyes everytime I read it.

I didnt write it, it was written by a Peacekeeping Soldier stationed in some hell hole. I wish I knew his name. Anonymous poems are always the best. Merry Christmas guys http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

Twas the night before Christmas
He lived alone
In a one bedroom house
Made of plaster and stone.

I had come down the chimney,
With presents to give
And to see just who in this home did live.

I looked all about
A strange sight I did see
No tinsel, no presents,
Not even a tree.

No stocking by mantel
Just boots filled with sand
On the wall hung pictures
Of far distant lands.

With medals and badges,
Awards of all kinds,
A sober thought came through my mind.

FOr this house was different,
It was dark and dreary,
I found the home of a soldier
At once I could see clearly.

The soldier lay sleeping,
silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor
In the one bedroom home.

The face was so gentle,
The room in such disorder,
Not how I'd pictured an (insert your country here) Australian Soldier.

Was this the hero of whom I'd just read ?
Curled up on a poncho
The floor for a bed.

I realised the families who I saw this night
Owed their lives to these soldiers
Who were willing to fight.

Soon round the the world the children would
play,
And grownups would celebrate a bright
Christmas Day.

The all enjoyed freedom each month of
the year
Because of the soldiers
Like the one lying here.

I could'nt help wonder,
How many lay alone
On a cold Christmas Eve
In a land far from home.

The very thought brought a tear to my eye
I dropped to my knees
And started to cry.

The soldier awakened
And I heard a rought voice
"Santa, dont cry,
This like is my choice"

"I fight for freedom,
I dont ask for more,
My life is my God, my country, my Corps."

The soldier rolled over
And drifted to sleep,
I could'nt control it
I continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours, so silent and still
And we both shivered
From the cold night's chill.

I didn't want to leave
On that cold, dark night,
This guardian of Honour,
So willing to fight.

The the soldier rolled over,
With a voice soft and pure,
Whispered, "Carry on Santa,
It's Christmas Day, all is secure."

Once look at my watch,
And I knew he was right,
"Merry Christmas, my friend,
And to all a good night."

Just one last thing guys. Spare a thought for those guys over in Afghanistan, or in Peacekeeping duties in other parts of the world. Remember what they are doing, and what dangers and hardships they endure. Say a pray or just give them a thought. We owe these guys everything, and they owe us nothing. They give and risk their lives for us every time they are deployed to a crisis.
And remember, that we would never have a world like we do today if it werent for the brave and courageous men who fought and lost their lives in World War 2. Never forget them, ever.

Merry Christmas, and God bless...

pyrotechnic 12-24-2001 09:26 AM

you got that off of http://madblast.com/flash_shows/soldiers_christmas.cfm

thats called plagurizm isnt it? at least tell them where u got it from! actin like u made it up!

8827Echo 12-24-2001 09:33 AM

It's not really plagiarism if you say you didn't write it and at least try to give credit to who did.

And the soldier in the Madblast cartoon looks like a 10 year old.

pyrotechnic 12-24-2001 09:35 AM

did he say what age the kid was? the kid is waiting for his dad i think!

FuBarGrn 12-24-2001 11:31 AM

Ya man, I'm sure that would be in the next x-mases at war special on the History channel. That was cool, anyone else see that?

Ranger_5 12-25-2001 01:19 AM

Yeah guys that poem is great... Been around for as long as I can remember. First time i read it was around 1986 during winter field training in White sands missle range. It has been edited since then but still captures the true intent of the orginal author.

Still being on active duty after 15 yrs and 3 months It always feels good to hear, see or read of anyone showing support for the guy on the ground... Thnx guys. Thats the only thing we ever asked for... "Support"

One of the best topics I've seen on this board in a few weeks....

usually when someone posts a poem like that , its understood that its being quoted . meaning you dont have to say it wasnt you who wrote it .now lets just say if BW did make a poem like that , i dont think he wouldn't have said it was made by him . in fact he would have stressed the fact that it was made by him . i sure would . like for example its understood that i didnt write this ....

With karate I'll kick your ass!
From here to Tienamen Square!
Oh yeah motherfucker,
I'm gonna kick your fucking derriere yeah yeah. You broke the rules!
Now I'll pull out all of your pubic hair. You mother fucker.
You mother fucker.
Kyle betrayed me then he lied,
tried to hide. And I died deep inside,
And you know the reason why.
I'm gonna kick your ass!
From here to right over there.
Oh yeah motherfucker I'm gonna kick your fucking derriere yeah, yeah.
You broke the rules, now I'll pull out all your pubic hair.
You motherfucker.
You motherfucker.

btw , happy holidays folks!

BallisticWookie 12-25-2001 04:24 AM

I'm glad the rest of you guys like it and enjoy it. To those who have to analyze everything anyone says, fuck you. I typed out this poem for you guys, hell use your common sense, I dont have time to sit around and type out a massive poem like that, and if I did, as Polaris said, I damn well would have stuck my name all over it because it is a masterpiece.

Next time, dont assume so much, use your common sense, I'm sure you have some in there somewhere.
