Windows XP Media Center Edition?

Anyone else ever heard of this? Alienware has this PC in a cube case, that plays media, has TV-out, etc. It's basically a multimedia PC, not a gamer/application PC. The case I've seen, but what the hell is XP Media Center Edition? I haven't heard of this since I read the ad in Maximum PC.

The case/system itself rocks, nice, very compact. Must be a beatch to try to upgrade/work with internally.

I actually just looked into it more, it's pretty damn cool.

The Media Center Edition is much like TiVO. You can actually browse TV channels, record, pause, and watch live TV all from the PC. But it also downloads a media guide, at no extra charge, so you can see whats on TV.

For Audio/DVD CD's, it displays a list of chapters/tracks with the title, and the cover of the CD/DVD. Pretty neat.

On top of that, it still uses WinXP Pro as the OS.

Yeah, I saw it in a Best Buy ad this morning, didn't know what the heck it was. Sounds cool.

If I didn't see the Alienware logo, I would've mistaken it for a $2000 mini-fridge.

It's only being bundled with certain computers now. Comes with a remoteand eveything. Hopefully Microsoft will bring it out for a separate purchase.

Joe you don't need any special hardware to turn your PC into a Tivo, just get this piece of hardware...damn I forget what it's called lol. Anyway, PM Rudedog, he has one. Much cheaper then a Tivo.

Bazooka_Joe 01-06-2003 12:47 PM

Yah, I know, a TV-Tuner card. Hauppage WinTV it's called. Thats the one that lets you pause live TV and everything.
