Server hosting info
Hi all .
Anyone know how many bandwith(in gig) a 14 players server for mohaa will need each monhts? (an average) Anyone know how the master know if the server is in usa or canada? It is by the the OS or by the route the server take to the server? Anyone know what is the minimal CPU and RAM needed to run a 14 players server dedicated? thanks all for the info. |
I'm guessing your referring to a AA server and not a SH.
[quote:514fb]Anyone know how many bandwith(in gig) a 14 players server for mohaa will need each monhts? (an average)[/quote:514fb] A T1 line should be sufficent enough for 14 people. If you get it from a gaming provider, like xgameservers.com, they should give you all the recommendations for bandwith. [quote:514fb]Anyone know how the master know if the server is in usa or canada? [quote:514fb]Anyone know what is the minimal CPU and RAM needed to run a 14 players server dedicated?[/quote:514fb] System Requirements Pentium II 500 MHz or faster processor Microsoft Windows 95/98/2000/Me/XP 128 MB RAM 4x CD-ROM drive 16 MB OpenGL-capable video card with DirectX 8.0-compatible driver DirectX 8.0-compatible sound card Keyboard and mouse That's the minimal, but I strongly recommend a P4/Athlon at least 1.3Ghz, and at least 256MB of RAM. |
ok thanks .
No , they don't want to tell me how many bandwith it take (its secret? eek: ) Forget it about usa and canada. |
you can not tell where you host lies. Your provider could but will not tell you either.
I know new Zealand charges more money to people who access their networks from outside new Zealand. ( it cost them more $$ for overseas bandwidth ) |
yep we play like an extra £40 for internation access
|
Rudedog , are you the admin of AA server?
DO you know how many bandwith it take in 1 monht? 10 gig? 100 gig? |
Yes, I was the owner admin of the AA.com game server, but never got any info on the bandwidth it used. Your not going to get anyone to tell you either. Why would they want to help the competition ( or they think your the competition ).
Good luck, If I do come across any info, I will post it for all to see. |
what? a new server for aa.com ???
cool! happy: |
There was post over at icculus.org regarding bandwith usage

Thanks for the link greensha.
very good info. |
Multiply your rate setting per 8 per no. of players and you get the max. bits used. Thus:
10000 (rate) * 8 * 14 players = 1120000 bits (1.093 Mbits) when running at full capacity (that's theory; you should add some more bits because of protocol data). If you use a rate of 8000: 8000 * 8 * 14 = 896000 bits (0.85 Mbits) Hope it helps, YoChoy |
Finding this is was very helpful for me. I no longer have to pay some game server company the high prices they charge. For less money i went out and rented my own dedicated Linux Server. I can now run spearhead and mohaa at the same time. On my first test i had 16 player Spearhead server running along side a 24 player MOHAA (bah high cpu since Im the only one running off the server) it also has come to my attention that some tweaking in the next Linux port is going to help reduce the high cpu utilization. Dam I think i will start my own server company.

duf,
A t1 line costs roughly $1200 dollars a month. I can assure you that it would be overkill for a 16 person server. AOBTC |
