Radeon 9500 Pro........opinions ??
I've been offered a brand new OEM Radeon 9500 Pro 128M video card for $130. I know little about ATI cards since i have a GeForce ll card. I'd like to know how this card rates against others...like say, the GeForce 4 ti4600. I was gonna plunk down $250 to get the ti4600 but now with this offer, i'm not sure. My buddy is gonna let me have the card over the weekend so i could make up my mind.
So, what do you people think of this card? |

get the 8500 instead it is a better card than the 9000 |
MAKE SURE you ask the seller what the clock speed of the GPU and RAM is! OEM usually means it's just the card, no software. But OEM can also mean lower standards in parts, meaning slower cards!
Otherwise, good price. |
Check out these benchmarks. Its a good card. Looks like a good price too.

Yeah Joe is right about the OEM stuff, but it sounds like a good deal to me. I got a GeForce 4 Ti4600 128mb ram for Christmas and that works pretty well, its a good upgrade from my old GeForce 2 Mx with 32mb. I mean, now the player models aren't moving squares and circles. Also, I can play UT2003 pretty well with it also.
About the ATI Radeon 9000 pro for $97. I have seen prices like that and they seem good, but you gotta be careful cause those cards aren't THAT great. But if you are stepping up to that from a really shitty card and don't want to spend a lot of money, then it might be the right choice. |
Thanks for the replies fellas. I installed the Radeon 9500 Pro and checked out my games. I bumped the resolutions up on all of 'em and it runs nice and smooth. Consider the card bought for $130. I'm running it on an AMD 1400XP with 384 SDRAM system and i'm happy with the results.
Someone asked about the RAM on the card...it has 128 onboard RAM as opposed to the 64 on the slower cards. Now, what the hell do i do with the silly remote that came with it? I got it!! I'll use it to throw at the neighbors cat!! (I prolly won't use the TV/DVD feature of the card....i got it for the graphics alone) |
As far as I can tell the speed differences between 64 and 128 mb cards is exclusive to nvidia gf4 cards. I dont think it makes a dif on ATI cards. I thnk you made the right choice.
