(Forgot to type 'No. 4' into the topic box, Stupid Predictable Joe!)

Yay, last day of school tommorow, Von P's excited...but then, don't get to see girl he likes for 2 WEEKS... http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/frown.gif

Anyway, enough bitchin', as I said yesterday, today I will tell you a little about the 8.8cm Flak Gun...Read On...Or not...

The Germans discovery of the potency of their heavy Flak guns in an anti-tank role was one of the most startling contributions to the armoured warfare of the Second World War. The '88' was used extensively in the Western Desert and Europe. It was both feared and respected bt the Allies during the war; no tank could stand up to it; and it came to be regarded as the ultimate German wonder-weapon of the war, with almost mythical powers.

Their were mobile versions (mounted on 4 wheels), It could be used in it's normal anti-aircraft position, and also laid for anti-tank use. German Generals (like Rommel) often 'dug in' their '88's' to form defensive lines and positions so they could reap a rich harvest of Allied tanks.

Specs.

Calibre: 8.8cm
Overall Length: 25 feet
Rate of Fire: 15-20 rounds per min.
Crew No: 6
Max Effective Altitude: 14,680 metres
Max Effective Horizontal Range: 10,600 metres

Note - Again, if anyone has any images or URL's containing 88's please post them in the forum, so others may see what they look like...

Also...If anyone would like to post similar topics to "Von P's WW2 Fact of the Day" over the next two weeks, please don't hesitate...

Replying to one's own posts seems to be getting contagious.
