FPS problem..

i have a PIII@900mhz, 256mb ram, GeForce 4 mx(41.09 drivers), enough HD, windows xp......and im getting very very low fps for example in the bridge i get like 15 fps.... oOo: anyway to fix this? biggrin:

HAMMER1 03-02-2003 10:29 AM

fps fix

just pull downconsol and typ in COM_MAXFPS 350 then hit enter (HAM)

this is normal, especially for your specs. the comp needed to properly run mohaa/spearhead has not been invented yet

HAMMER1 03-02-2003 11:16 AM

lol hehe

man! just typ in the console COM_MAXFPS 350 then hit enter you will see a instant change in how your game run mohaa has a built in fps cap this uncaps it if you want to see what your fps is typ in consol FPS 20 then hit enter
to take it off your screen typ in FPS 0 then hit enter (HAM)

Mr. Jingles 03-02-2003 11:25 AM

The com_maxfps command only works if you can get FPS over 99.

HAMMER1 03-02-2003 12:10 PM

FPS is the rate at which the game try to refesh your veiw now yes uncapping would work if you wanted to go over 99 but it will not help when you arer rooted to 15 fps. however as most monitors only refesh at 75 wheres the point in trying to go past this?

as for your problem i have 128 mb geforce 4 and my fps dip to about 40 on some parts of the bridge, there not a lot you can do about it execp avoid thoses area's.

Id say it has much to do with your processor more than anything else.

dooms.

FPS is your frames per second that are being rendered by the vidcard and processor. Monitor refresh rate is entirely different and really has nothing to do with your framerate. The higher the refresh rate, the crisper the image. And yes going past the fps cap has a point; but only if you are stuck up there at 99 fps. Try lowering some of your vid settings and/or playing at lower resolution i.e. 800x600.

Whats your system specs? And what resolution are you running at?

Resetting your max refresh rate does nothing if your max does not bump the max set by the game, so tap, tap tap, everyone is just being polite. The point of upping a max fps is that when the frame rate dips, it doesnt dip below the 57 fps threshold of what the eye can actually notice. It has also been specutaled that when you remove the max fps threshold, you start to lag servers because your vid card is querying the server 2 to 3 times as much as is necessary, but many server cap the number of queries per second to counter this. If this is the case, you might be getting three hundred fps locally, but the server is only sending 100, so you see each frame 3 times. Monitor refresh rates do have to do with fps. They can only go as fast as they are disigned. 300 fps looks identical to 95 fps on a monitor with a refresh rate of 75. The advatage is that the 300 fps is less likley to spike below the 75 than the 95 is.

If your fps never goes below 75, then you should have no problems. John Carmack states that doom 3 will be set to run at 57-60 fps and claims that no one will be able to tell. I tend to believe his word over random people on the internet.

To answer the original question - Your hardware is holding you back. All three of the specs you listed could be improved on, and you would see in increase for each one you upgraded.

As Strik0r said, this is rather normal. MOH is a incoherant system hog. oOo: With a P4 2Ghz, 512MB of PC-800 RDRAM, a GF4 Ti4600, and WinXP Pro I still average about 50FPS on most maps, and on maps like Omaha 20.
