Come one, come all.

Howdy peeps.

I thought this newsworthy since it's something I'd be interested in hearing about myself, so forgive me if this doesn't appeal to you (though I think it will).
The [NA] Neo Anarchy clan server is now officially up and running. You may or may not have heard of us, but you may be attracted by the fact that our server is running 4-UK Fairplay. Long time vets of MoH:AA, we're galled by the influx of cheaters that seem oh so prevalent on the public and even clan servers these days. As such, our server will serve as a safe house for burnt out vets who are sick of the aforementioned cheats and will give everyone a place to play safe in the knowledge that if you take a kicking, you are simply outskilled, or on the other hand, if you're owning, you won't be accused of modding or cheating. For you new players out there, it will also provide you with the opportunity to learn how to play the game properly (albeit without rockets or shotguns *g*)
Our server requires you to have a default game installation (yep, no custom PK3's of any kind) and requires you to be running the 4-UK Fairplay client.
You can find us on ASE or GSA under the title:

jolt.co.uk [NA] Neo Anarchy - 4-UK Fairplay Client Required

Alternatively, the IP is:

Hope to see you around.

And what kind of protection do you have against ChameleonSkins, No Bushes, and No Recoil? Your "good" players could be cheating without anyone else knowing.

MPowell1944 03-12-2003 03:55 PM

Above post mentioned cheats that are not in .pk3 form.

NA_Harlequin 03-12-2003 04:04 PM

Well the scanner actively scans the installation directory, including file names and file sizes. Anything that's out of the ordinary is picked up and the player is kicked. Not only does it scan the MoH:AA directory however, but it scans the entire system, so we can see any background applications that may be running. I'm not saying that this method is infallible, but it at least eliminates a good deal of the most common cheats.

Ydiss 03-12-2003 07:29 PM

And it's a UK server, which reduces the chance of cheaters before you even start.

I've still yet to be beaten by someone in the UK/Europe who was cheating.

Btw, where do you get this client and does it ban map pk3s as well?

NA_Harlequin 03-13-2003 07:03 AM

There are a few places that you can get your hands on it. The official place is: http://www.4-uk.net/ under the 'Fairplay' logo, but the links don't seem to work there. We'll be putting the required files on our site very soon, so check back frequently:
http://www.neoanarchy.barrysworld.net/
And unfortunately yes, it does kick custom maps, anything at all that is out of the ordinary in the installation directory. We'll be adding certain maps to the server soon however, and again, the map list will be on our aforementioned site.

A HUNGRY FATMAN 03-13-2003 08:00 AM

but even if you add maps to the server no one will be able to play them becaause if they have the map.pk3 they will be kicked your idea had good intentions but it is not the best way to do what you w flamethrower: ant

Ydiss 03-13-2003 09:55 AM

I'd be willing to remove my pk3s to a backup folder for the odd game but I couldn't be arsed to do it all the time.

Not that I use any of the maps in my main folder. Might be time for a cleanout.

I may pop by sometime. I'll have to get used to playing without my personal crosshair but that's no real sacrifice if the server's worth it, hehe.

Another question, does the program check for picmip settings? That would be sweet.

NA_Harlequin 03-13-2003 10:01 AM

No, there is a list that you can add files to so that the scanner will ignore them, so any map PK3's can be added to this list and you won't be kicked when they're detected in your folder.

NA_Harlequin 03-13-2003 10:08 AM

Oh, and before you say 'But you could just change the name of a cheat file to the name of a map', we can specify the file size, so if you change the name of no-recoil for example into a known map name, the scanner will detect the size discrepancy. angel:

Oh sorry, missed your Q about the picmip there. Aye, you're required to use an honesty config.

Sounds good so far. How extensively has this been tested?

Ie, have you tried as many known cheats as you can to see if this detects them?

Also, what gamestyle is hosted? DM/TDM or Obj?

If you like you can take a look at my custom map if you're considering including custom maps at a later date. Believe it or not the map has been available for months and I've not even got a chance to play a decent game on it yet.

MPowell1944 03-13-2003 02:07 PM

With this being able to check file size, this might be the end to the Chameleon Skin cheat. Sounds good!

NA_Harlequin 03-13-2003 06:59 PM

Well as for the extensive testing, it has proven itself to date, but only time will tell I guess. It's worked flawlessly so far, but no doubt there are ways around it (unfortunately).
As I said earlier, it will negate a lot of the most common cheats out there, and while it may not be perfect (let's face it, nothing is), it offers a good deal more protection than most servers, apart from the official 4-UK one I should imagine. wink:
And in answer to your question regarding the server type, we run TDM.

SteelmassacrE 03-15-2003 07:57 AM

the clan i am in are good friends with 4-UK and i usually pop by their server and i have noticed since they have put the fairplay client on their server, there has been alot of people been kicked for cheating and the numbers of so called OwNeRs drop so it seems to be working. cool:
