it doesnt really affect anything, its just when you are actually doing stuff in photoshop. I actually have no idea what it is or what it does, but i betcha you could get rid of it. I just dont know how, sorry.

It's the slice icon. I don't even know how to use it, but to get rid of that icon, just right click on it and select "delete slice".

you can also use ctr+h to get it out quicker. that thing gets annoying as shit
