DoD is going retail

Just read this from Gamershell...

[quote:393f0]Activision, Inc. and Valve, L.L.C. jointly announced today a strategic partnership that grants Activision exclusive worldwide publishing rights to upcoming games created by the premiere PC game developer. Included under the terms of the agreement, Activision has acquired the publishing rights to Day of Defeat, a multiplayer game powered by Valve's Half-Life technology. Day of Defeat is scheduled for release this May. Read the press release for more details.

[quote:393f0]Day of Defeat is a World War II multiplayer first-person action game that pits players in Axis vs. Allies battles in Western Europe at the height of the war in 1944. Players enlist as snipers, infantrymen, machine gunners, riflemen and sergeants, and then hit the frontlines running using authentic weaponry. The game, which initially debuted as a MOD, features multiple modes of play, a total of 15 multiplayer maps of action -- including 10 new maps, all new character models, hundreds of new animations, increased textures and all new particle effects system. Day of Defeat will also launch with a new Allied squad -- the British.[/quote:393f0]

That sounds like it's gonna be 4.0 I'm kind of disspointed, but they deserve to have money for such a great mod.

that sucks, i really like that game too

Slinky2397 04-04-2003 07:09 PM

Regardless I will buy it. The new screenies look nice, I hope the Panzerschreck isn't like in MoH or that game will be in hell. Hopefully it's just for cutscenese, or like a tank busting mode, similar to VIP in CS.

They have a trailer for the retail version at fileplanet. I'm d/l right now.

Satyricon 04-04-2003 08:03 PM

You can still download it for free if you have a copy of Half Life. oOo:

Just think of it how CS is right now. You could either buy it, or just download it.

04-04-2003 08:11 PM

do you need HL to play this one, or can you just buy it without HL?

Satyricon 04-04-2003 08:16 PM

You can buy the retail and not have Half Life. It'll work.

ED! Ban #126 04-04-2003 08:20 PM

So it'll be the same then. No updated graphics...just the next mod released to the paying public.

And yea you can dl it for free. This is for people who might not want HL.

Why you would pay 20 bucks for a single game, when you can pay 20 bucks for HL and get countless free mods...o_0

Satyricon 04-04-2003 08:24 PM

Hm, they said it'll have a new "particle system". Plus they added Brits and what not.

Slinky2397 04-04-2003 08:42 PM

The trailer looks nice, 3rd Person muzzle flashes, and the Panzer/'Zooka is being used for tanks and MG outposts. I change my mind, I will just download it, unless some new things aren't included in the DL.

Satyricon 04-04-2003 08:47 PM

That trailer wasn't supposed to be released, Just read on the DoD forums from one of the devs that, the trailer on fileplanet was an earlier quality. It wasn't the final cut. They have no idea how that got out lol.

And btw, I read somewhere that the retail version would bring nine new maps. And that those maps would be released online later on. Not sure, just a rumour. I doubt they'll do that though. (Hopefully they'll release the maps in the download :/)
