Me too. Turning off the monitor saves enough enery.

Go to the website of your motherboards manufacturer. Maybe there's an update for your BIOS available that fixes it.

I had the same problem in 98. It also looks like you haev a VIA, with the sound. Must be that, because before we got 98 we got an Azza or something motherboard.

Stand by always screwed my pc up too. I disable it. If you are worried about energy use, set your screen saver to blank screen and a short time span - 5 minutes or less.

I have it configured this way as well, and I have set the time to turn the monitor off to 20 minutes. Hard disks to 1 hour.

I think the computer 'box' doesn't uses that much energy this way. If I leave for several hours, I shut down the system. No need to have it running when I'm not there and am not using it (e.g. downloading things).

Disable the stand by feature. Just set the time to never. Instead have your monitor and hard disk power down after a certian time.
