Help with making pk3's

I can't make my own pk3 files work. I've tried zipping in both WinZip and WinAce and with different levels of compression.

Downloaded pk3's works fine, but my own dosen't. If I take a pk3 that I know work, unzip it and then zip it again, it dosen't work.

Does anybody have a clue to what I'm doing wrong?

Before anybody suggests it, it's not the folderstructure or filetype thats wrong. I've checked that.

OK, so you renamed your .zip to .pk3.

But, if you have the option 'hide extensions for known filetypes' (somewhere in the folder options) checked, then the filename becomes blablabla.pk3.zip (not quite sure, but I think this is correct). Ergo, still a .zip, not being recognized by MoHAA. Maybe this is your problem? Uncheck the box (in Windows XP: Open an explorer windows (e.g. 'My Computer'), go to Tools->Folder options..., see the tab 'View')

Compression doesn't matter. As long as it is a .zip with a .pk3 extension, everything should be fine.

Nice try Tiwaz, but that wasn't it

What version of WinZip do you use? If you are using a very recent version, it could be that MoHAA can't read it? Zip is not always 'forward' compatible (I don't think you can extract .zip's made by version 8 with version, say, 4).

By the way: I use WinRAR (3.11), to make my .pk3's, works fine. Can handle all kinds of extensions. In fact, I like it better than WinZip, which I used to use. KaZaA.

I am usin winzip 8.1 an it works fine.
How are you makin the pak files? I just highlight all folders I want in zip and rightclick em and pick add to new zip file and type in pak name.pk3 and they seem to work fine. angel:

Well, now we have that sorted out, and taking in account you did everything exactly like you said, it should work.

One last thing: Maybe your WinZip is configured in a way that it stores the complete path, not the relative path. Look somewhere in options.

Consider: C:\MyMods\music\modded files here.

\music\ is the relative path.

If WinZip also puts C:\MyMods in, MoHAA will not use the mod in the .pk3. Because the path 'MyMods' is nonexistent in the original MoHAA .pk3's.

If this is not it...I have run out of possible solutions. Good luck.

I found the problem happy:

I included to many folder levels in the zip (i.e. there is only supposed to textures/hud, but I took mod/textures/hud)

It works now. Thank you all.

I can't believe I didn't figure that out myself hake:
