Computer sucking extremely bad...

This is the last straw. Now I fucking hate my computer. Now it just wants to randomly shut down. It shut down when I was typing this the first time. This just happened yesterday, no idea why it happened, thought it was just a 1 time thing, but it's happened 7 times since then, and is seriously pissing me off. Now, my first thought was, it's getting too hot, but it's never gotten hot, we got a couple fans in there, and one my video card. Then I thought, maybe it's a virus, scanned, nothing. Now I'm at a stump. Anybody have any tips on how I might be able to find out what's wrong with this?

no matter what anyone else after me says, the best thing to do is reformat. thats just what I would do.

MrLevinstein 04-11-2003 04:56 PM

Maybe you should erase that sucker and reload windows into it

thats what re-formatin does...but last time my comp had a problem like this it was my sound card or zonealarm. do u have on board audio on ur motherboard? if u do take it off and use a sound card and if u have zonealarm take that off as well. for my restarting problem i just took off the sound on the motherboard and used a soundcard and now it works fine..g'luck

what operating system are you using?

I just have XP Home. And I use my sound card anyway, and I don't use ZoneAlarm. Later, I'm gonna open it up and clean it out, maybe that's why. It just shuts down on random.

It could be a number of things.

Ranging from lack of power from your power supply, to insufficient AC from your outlet, or perhaps your computer IS overheating, which could be most likely it.

Go to CMOS and look around, there should be a core temp. for your CPU. Find that and come back and tell us what it is after your computer is on for awhile.

Tell us your system specifications.

Just to let you know, my PC NEVER overheated, until one night, it finally did. I opened it, ran a fan (room fan) on it for a 1/2 hour while it ran, it didn't shut down again, so I covered it back up, no problems since.

Make sure the case isn't dusty, and ALL cable connections are tight.

You fucked around in your computer when it was ON? Is it just me or is that not smart?

Slinky2397 04-11-2003 09:16 PM

All it really needed was a simple cleaning. Ton of dust, there was some huge clumps in the CPU fan, that might have made it clogged. In the BIOS or whatever comes up when you hit delete, blah blah, it was at 118 degrees Farenheit, and the shutdown is set to 158 degrees, so it was pretty close. Now I've been able to play RvS for a while and no problems. Glad I got that averted, thanks for the tips anyway.

lol dude, you should clean out your computer at LEAST once a month or you'll get dust dinosaurs

PFC. Berquist 04-11-2003 09:45 PM

Sergeant_Scrotum 04-11-2003 09:46 PM
