Umm... ok. Yeah, stick with Intel, even tho they are just NOW implementing support for DDR RAM. Of course, you could always stick with their recommended brand of RAM, Rambus, which typically costs about 100% more than equivalent DDR RAM.
AMD is the way to go. Now ATI, they're OK. They make great video cards that are typically much less expensive than equivalent Nvidia products. The only problem is that they may run buggy due to driver problems. www.tomshardware.com |
alright...im thinking about getting a new computer...i want to get a barebones system though...what do you think would run medal of honor the best?

How much ya looking to spend?
|
don't want to spend to much but wanna run it good, check this out: Go P3 or P4 for cpu, anything abouve 1 Gig this way intel cpu's can run good in games and other applications, ram is cheap so buy lots, nothing below 256MB, get a reasonably big HD, no less then 20G, 7200rpm, sound card, eh whatever you feel like some mother boards have built in ones, for a main board get something good that supports Raid, something for the future and for a graphics card go ATI, any Radeon will do, hope that helps..

The best value for money ($/Mhz) is AMD's 1600XP. Put that on the new SiS Mobo with 512Mb of DDR RAM and a GF3, you won't see better. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

I disagree with some here.
Athlon is better than Pentium. Geforce 3 runs MoH better than the Radeon 8500. |
You need to be looking at leasr $5000 (Australian) to get a very VERY nice comp, but about 3000 would still get you a nice one.
PS Aus dollar worth about 1/2 of the US Dollar, you do the math [This message has been edited by Oddball (edited January 12, 2002).] |
I turned a compaq desktop 233mhz I found in the trash into a Athalon AMD 850mhz 258mbram geforce2 52xcd-rom for $300. And sold it for $600.
Its so much cheaper to build your own. I built my freind a comp for $400 thats much better then mine and got most of the parts from the trash on bulk pick-up day. tip of the day- if you see a computer on the side of the road... crack it open and take the parts. So many people toss out perfectly good ram sticks and video cards. Also take the fans for your overclocked systems. |
If you don't want to build you're on system, get a Dell (.com). Very good computers, and they let you config you're graphics card (a huge plus).
