military equipment
i have been watching news and i have noticed that i have been able to tell the difference between the army and usmc on tv. besides the division insignia on the army helmets and marines new camo i mean. Upon further "investigation" i noticed that a majority of the Army kevlar helmets have the night vision goggle rack thing, where-as the usmc kevlars helmets with the night vision thin arent as common. i also noticed that the army seems to have a diff style of kevlar vests than the marines. the army ones have like 5 straps, where the usmc ones seem to have velcrow down the front. I know in vietnam marines used diff flack jackets than the army-do they still use different flack vests?
so my basic question is are army and marines issued different gear? thanks |
The Marines customized their gear to provide greater utility.
For example their field packs and tents are a more modern, modified civilian design. The story goes that the Commandant of the Marines Corps was on a field exercise and got drenched because his tent was a POS, so he ordered a study to find the best equipment. Also instead of canteens the Marines use a flexible pack with a drinking tube, so you don't even need to get it out of your ruck. |

It coonnects by a tube, i dunno but that just reminded me of it |
a camel bak...Those are awsome. Unless they freeze..the nyou are fooked.

Camel-backs are used by ALL branches of the US Military, not just the ARMY.
However, you are correct "negative". The ARMY and the MARINE CORPS use different style of BDUs and equipment. The US ARMY gets more aid from the government while the US MARINE CORPS gets very little... and sometimes I hear the MC still uses equipment from Vietnam... but they still get the job done happy: However, it was ALWAYS known that the US ARMY gets better aid and equipment. They are much larger, yes but they waste allot of their money on stupid shit. The MC gets very little but they still GIVE money back to the government at the end of the year. |
Yes you are right Zap, the USMC typically gets older gear, but that doesn't mean the Army is better prepared for battle. Some people say the M4 is better than M16, and since more Army uses the M4 than USMC, they say Army is better. But I think I would rather have the rifle capable of longer distances out there in the desert. Anyway Marines do get new stuff too, but I do think they use some Vietnam stuff as well.
P.S. I know my grammar was terrible in this post. |
Oh, I wasn't saying the ARMY was better or anything, I was saying the MC was doing damn good for what it has biggrin:

Oh yeah I know you weren't trying to imply that, I was just spamming random thoughts. |
I know when I was in the Corps, some of my gear had to have been from the Vietnam era. My heavy cold weather jacket had holes all over it. Our shelter halves were ancient as well. We did however get new ponchos. Yeah!!!
