okay, I have been having a problem lately with any 3d game with awesome graphics [like RtCW and MoHAA] I get in teh game, and play for 5-10 minutes and it freezes, and I have to do a cold reboot. I don't get why this happens and maybe some of you could help. My systems specs are as follows -
AMD Athlon XP 1700 [which is about 1.43ghz] Windows XP Professional Edition [maybe this is it] 256mb SD Ram 40gig Harddrive K5S7A from ECS [SiS chipset] Geforce 2 MX 100/200 64mb thats most of it... now when I go check my Systems Event Log after it freezes it sayz [for when it freezes] Source: VSS Description: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040206. now that has only been there once, and the rest off the time it freezes, it doesn't log it. The computer only seemes to freeze when playing a 3d accelorated game, after about 5 minutes, although on the rare occassion, it will freeze on the startup of the game. This leads me to believe it has something to do with my vidcard, but thruthfully I have no Idea. I have all the latest drivers, and my temperature runs around 40-46°C when stationary... now I can't open up my case, to check things out or it will void my warentee which kind of sucks, but for some reason I feel that there may be no thermal cooling gel/glue ontop of the amd chip to keep it cool. If any of you have some suggestions about what I could do to fix this, post em here and it would be greatly appreciated. thanks, |
Honestly, I personally have had all kinds of problems with the DetonatorXP drivers. I run an SiS 735 chipset. The way I resolved this was to install the manufacturer's drivers, they work great. You also may want to check your Direct X version, has to be 8.0a or above, as well as your sound-card/integrated sound-drivers.

What is your sound card...that could be causing some problems somewhere...also are you using the detonator drivers for your GF2 and if so, what version?

Well, perhaps it's XP because many say it's not a gamer's friend.
You might try experimenting with different driver versions. Also, perhaps, delete the demo, defrag your hard drive and reinstall. ??? ------------------ http://simtown.net/members/crash615/sfc5.jpg |

Windows XP is the best OS ever made.
That it doesn't work with MoH well is more 2015's problem than anything else. All of the people with XP problems I've seen had the Proffesional Edition. Mh. I know for sure that Wolfenstein and Quake III have no problems with the XP home edition. |
You tell 'em Manny!
Stop blaming XP - it rocks. However, I did have the same issues with some versions of the detonator drives (gf2gts). Here's what I did to solve my problems: 1.) Install the 23.11 reference drivers. 2.) Disable the "Nvida Helper Service". 3.) Goto Display Properties / Settings / Advanced / Troubleshoot and disable (uncheck) the "Enable Write Combing". Hope this helps. |
Oh yeah, just remembered. XP has a built-in firewall, so if your'e trying to play on the internet you need to make sure the proper ports and such are open for the game.
