Skin Couriosity - please help

I made a blond version of Manon (see below), uploaded it to our server and when i select the skin I see it in game at other people .... BUT not on myself !?!
I've selected the skin, it has a blue jacket, and normally I expect that I see this blue jacket too in game ... but I just see the forearm and hand of allied_pilot skin ...

What am I doing wrong? I'm thankful for every hint... :)

Short addition:
I just see the skin when I select Force Models = on ...

I dont see it at me nor at a teammate without Force Models

thats because along with ur TGA files, you need DDS files...which are just a different image compression...

you can find the plug-in at the NVIDIA site

Thanks!

Just to finish your help ... the steps I've to do now are ...?
- open TGA files in Photoshop
- save them as DDS file
- place them into same folder as TGA file (in the pk3)?

It would be nice to add these infos to your brilliant guide that inspired me to make own skins for my clan. :)

WHOOOAAAAAA.......... biggrin:

And maybe a short explain which of the huge load of options when saving as DDS file I have to activate...

Regenwurm 05-21-2003 09:24 AM

Ok now ... I tried different types of DDS to save ... DXT1 ... DXT5 ... 16bit RGB ... 24bit RGB ... and I tried just to make a copy of the TGA files and rename it to DDS ... but nothing solved my problem... :-(

Is there no way to get the skins working without the DDS files?

Regenwurm 05-21-2003 09:28 AM

Sorry ... I forgot to add a link to my skin ... I've uploaded it and maybe someone can tell me by looking into it whats wrong and were I made a mistake... thanks.

Which dxt file you use depend on vid card i think (one works better for nvidia, one for radeon) but i dunno which is which.

Download an already made skin and check out the files inside of it

Regenwurm 05-21-2003 10:36 AM

I've a GeForce 4 ... but I think the skin should work on all vid cards...

And I've downloade some skins already ... but there were no DDS files in it... because of that I'm still helpless... :-(

What di I have to do that I dont need the DDS files? Do I have to edit something in tik or shader files?

And Photoshop wont open DDS files ... :-/

Anyone? Please? cry:

da_neural 05-22-2003 04:45 AM

dude, g said that you need the DDS files for the images when i need dds file i just copy the tga and rename them to .dds in stead of .tga

go into cmd

then find the file say it is called skin1 (make a copy of it)

then type

ren skin1 copy.tga skin1.dds

that should help you cool:

Regenwurm 05-22-2003 06:47 AM

Thanks, but I already did that ... made a copy of the files, renamed them to .dds ... tried in photoshop to save as .dds ... lots of options and I dont know which to select so I tried half of them ... I also tried to use JPG instead of TGA ...

Results: Nothing changes... same problem as before... mad:

Please ... can someone have a look at the pk3 linked above and try to fix it? I'm at the end ... all my skins are not working... and I still dont know why... cry:

Regenwurm 05-23-2003 12:01 PM
