After playing the Doom III alpha, and seeing the video for HL2, I think HL2 will outpreform.

You read it right. How many times has the release date been bumped back on D3? HL2 was just announced, it wont be released anytime soon. How many times has D3 been a main attraction at E3? Three, I think. At this point I will be sceptical of any release date until I hear one of them is going gold.

I bet halo for pc will be cool and that one is coming out very soon.

HL2 without a doubt. D3 soesn't seem to be offering much to push the genre forward (ID's stuff rarely does, it just improves on what went before - only the original Doom and Quake were innovative). I'm sure ID won't be worried, they'll get plenty of revenue from licensing their new engine to 3rd parties.

HL2 has its own engine, however. It's designed to do things on the fly that even scripted sequences could not do before. It is looking to add a whole new depth to puzzle solving, world interaction and improvisation (and that's not just available to the player, it seems).

It does all this and still maintains a very gorgeous and detailed look and is still apparently going to be playable on a 1ghz machine with 32 bit graphics.

I'll have some of that.

By the way, I would imagine all the next World War themed games will be produced using Valve's "Source" code, rather than ID's new engine.

Just look at the things you could do with it. Imagine how amazing MOH would be using that engine... You truly could resort to throwing your helmet at the enemy, a la SPR. Or a matress, barrel, radiator, stove etc etc...

I would not expect anything flashy or innovative from HL2 in the multiplayer department, though. My guess is that Valve will do as they did before and create a decent and simple MP format (probably DM/TDM based). My guess is that they will let the modders create the MP flavours.

CS2, DoD3, HL2 Adrenaline Gamer (for the hardcore gamers) and, if anyone can remember this, HL2 Oz DM.

Myself and a friend will probably work on a Shotgun|Bow mod (one of Oz's creations) for HL2 as soon as we get access to the source.

And mapping... /drool I can't wait!
