9800 Pro or FX5900?
I'm upgrading my video card so... Should I get the Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB[/url:db537] or the Nvidia FX5900 Ultra 256MB[/url:db537] card? They are pretty much the same price. I know that the FX5900 beat the Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb in most tests, but are there any tests of the FX5900 Ultra vs. 9800 Pro 256MB?

I say go with the pro.

Damn, that 256mb must be pretty expensive. It'll offer ultra kick ass graphics though.

Nope, the memory is used for texture storing mainly on gfx cards. Only one games uses 90mb of textures at full detail and its not out yet, that being doom 3. Its more of a gimmick than anything really. |
Then what the hell good does it do?
|
Should I get the 128MB version of the 9800 Pro then?

It'll be cheaper and ther wont be much of a diff in terms of performance anyway. Id say yes. 256mb of ram at the mo is just for bragging rights. |

id have to agree there. 256 mb of ram on a vid card is ridiculous. maybe in like 5 yrs youll need that much. ed: |

Alright. Thanks for the help, guys.

FX is giving too many issues, espically now with the Detonator driver issue. Stick with the RADEON 9800, I have it and it's great.
