My ping is high!

I finally got MP to work for me and now I get kicked off alot of servers because my ping is too high. My lowest ping is between 200 and 300 and it's absolutly terrible! It takes my gun 1 second to fire after I click the mouse! Can you tell me some ways to lower my ping besides getting a better connection than a 56k modem? Isn't there some tweaking that I can do or adjust some settings?

You can do one thing to get a better ping: get a better connection than 56k

if you want as lower ping as possible on a 56k make sure you join servers as close to you as you can...so if you live in America try and avoid joinging a server in Britain as the ping will be almost twice as high biggrin:

Delete some files like maps or mods etc

You're a moron, how would that help your ping?

it wont. DO a defrag on your comp, then get a new connection, and play in servers in your country only. Also try to play with people who have the same connection as you. 56k playing with a 56k will be OK but a 56k playing with a cable/dsl...your gonan get slaughtered and piss off the other dude

56k is surely your problem,, However, the problem it extends beyond that.

II just started replaying MOHAA multiplay after about a 7 month lapse and now when I play I'm running around like a snail and others are running rings around me. People can actually outrun me even though we have the same weapons? Reminds me of my 56K days. My weapon is not as effective as it was.

Additionally, I'm getting a chop when I turn fast. Nothing has changed with my computer except my cable connection has improved and I have the latest updates to all devices. Additionally, my drive is defragged and all devices are consantly checked. When I do Tracerts, my pings are better than they were 7 months ago.

I have and P4 2 gig mhz processor, 512 meg memory, 120 gig hard drive running XP with a Radeon 900 Pro video card. I also can crank over 100 fps but I limit it to 60.

What has changed? I play CKR/Realism games mostly and I'm wondering if they are the cause.

The difference in my movement speed to some of the others is startling. During a game I asked about my speed issue and I was told that there are mods for CKR that improve your speed? Is that correct?

Can anyone suggest a solution.

first of all you probably have a 2ghz processor not a 2 gig mhz. BEsides that. Check to make sure your not walking. THat may be the cause. other wise...maybe your crouched.

I am a former 56k user, i tried everything and i could only get my ping down to 200 at best, but really try to get cable, it wouldnt cost much more. oOo:

Make sure you have selected the right connection setting in the multiplayer options.

Only advice I can give you is to get a better connection. Go with DSL or cable. I have a 1.1megabit DSL line, and my average ping is 40 - 50.
