cpu voltage frequency
 

my mother board supports 533mhz fsb. the proccessor is an intel pentim 4: 2.4ghz. it is limited to a 400mhz fsb. right now i have the auto configure proccessor thing switched on in the bios setting thing. it automaticaly sets it to 100mhz fsb. i swicth it off to manuel and set the 100mhz to 400mhz, but then decided to discard changed. so now if i set it to 400fsb will my proccesor burn? and will there be a noticeable increase in performance?

what do you guys have it set to?

LOL, but no.

Crank it up. If your mobo supports up to 533 and your cpu is 400, turn it up to 400. They were both made to handle it, are compatible and you should see a decent increase in speed. At this point, your fsb is your bottleneck.

Normally, the clock frequency of the FSB is measured in times tables, meaning it was 100mhz x 4 = 400mhz. You changed it to 400, it might be trying to push your FSB to 1600mhz! Although, if it was, I doubt your PC would even boot. eek:

Umm yeah almost every aspect of the motherboard, when computing the BUS speed, is multiplied, because the data travels through multiple channels. Hence the 800/1066 etc Memory. DO NOT mess with the frequency or voltage unless you are abloslutely sure you know what you are doing. Overclocking like that can and will permenately damage your components. And the bus speed of that processor will always default to the processors speed, not what the motherboard can handle. You should always leave the settings the way they are, unless you have enough cooling to handle the extra heat that will be generated. Also, the Intel chips are locked so you shouldn't be able to crank them up anyway, unless you shorted the wire.

Intel FSB are able to run at 100-133mhz with a 4x multiplier (now up to 8x)fine. Its the multiplier that makes big numbers like 800mhz and (133x4)533mhz. So don't set the actual CLOCK SPEED to 400. You'll smell burning pentium. ed:
