EA games to come in small packages



Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Electronic Arts' upcoming shooter, will be released in the new standard box recommended by the IDSA.

Electronic Arts has announced that Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, its upcoming first-person shooter, will meet the new packaging standards recommended by the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA) in June 2000. The game box, which is similar in size to DVD packages and some console game packages, measures 5.25 inches wide, 7.5 inches high, and 1 inch deep. The IDSA packaging standards are intended to reduce irregular box shapes and sizes, decrease the amount of space each game takes up on retail shelves, and make game boxes more environmentally friendly by using less materials and creating less waste.
"We're really looking forward to the uniform appearance that the new standardized PC boxes will give our stores," said Jerry Madaio, vice president of PC merchandise for Electronics Boutique. "Having many more PC titles faced outward, showing more of the box art, is a real advantage for our shoppers."

Electronic Arts is one of the first major PC game publishers to announce that all its upcoming PC games will be released in the new standardized boxes. Other upcoming EA games include Black & White: Creature Isle, Command & Conquer Renegade, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf 2002, Sid Meier's SimGolf, and The Sims: Vacation.
