But my hopes and prayers go out to those gamers, who must sit in bed all night long with bloodshot eyes, muttering their favorite games

I think it is a good idea for Asia, I hate to sound racist but those Asians take their games waaaayyyyy to seriously, like many other things they take to seriously. (hence the Marine Corps slang "go asiatic")
That one Korean dude played a game for 3 days straight until he kicked the bucket from sleep deprivation, hunger, and thirst.

They take this for real and to them it's a do or die Banzai charge, not some game you can turn off and play another day.

I saw a Korean StarCraft video once. Holy Shit. It was like two Koreaians on a stage with like 500 fans/losers and two REALLY hyped up announcers.

There used to be something similar to this when I was a kid in Newfoundland. It was called PARENTING!!

my friend convinced me to go to one of those lan places. that was nuts. 2 kids were allied in warcraft 3 together & it went something like this

kid1: uh oh looks like their comign after me
kid2:you can take them
kid 1: no dude i need help now!
kid 2: fuck you, im trying to defend myself, their after me too!
kid 1: you fag help me now!
kid 2: go fuck yourself bitch

The week I played Warcraft, it went like that. Of course if you're new you get killed by your teammates if you dont work like you should, or if youre fairly good you get folks who leave games because their champion gets killed quick...and then you get the pleas for people to send gold or lumber so that they can survive and you can die. Etc, etc.

what I would like to do is go to a "LAN thing" with full MARAT and a couple of thompsons, if some guy is like "haha I owned you", bring out the thompsons and say "me and you in the boonies behind this building, if yer man enough"
