in SPR the Company commander as the thompson and the sargeant has the carbine. Would most likely be the other way around as the carbine would be a good weapon for individual defense and company commanders were not normally being the first one in the hole like a thompson gunner would have been.

Anyway the marines were rather fond of that little carbine even if it was not effective at a distance. But it was light weight and easy to use in the dense jungle where you often did not engage the enemy until you were a few yards from each other.

Anyone have any pictures of one, stats of one maybe? This is one of the guns that I really don't know much about since it's not in the game, but that I'm interested in cause of its role in SPR and the war.

Marines fighting in the Pacific theatre used the M-1 and M-2 carbines extensively (though they also used the Thompson a lot) and much of their fighting was done at shorter ranges than in European theater. (The carbines were shorter than M-1 Garands and were intended for use at shorter ranges)

Which is why I've been pushing for a Pacific expansion as a Marine. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

I actually own an M1 carbine. Very handy rifle - much lighter than a Thompson or Garand, very easy to haul around. The .30 cal. bullet is not bad either, but it has about half the powder of its big brother the .308 or the big daddy 30-06.
Range is limited on the carbine, but the recoil is alot less than the larger rounds -
so its alot more accurate close in.
Not a great rifle for deer hunting, but a good people stopper...

Sorry, got alittle off-topic there. Yeah, I'd like to see it in the game also.

Well I have read that in the European theater the MP often used the Carbine because it was lightweight and easy to haul around. Second it was nice to have a gun that was lightweight just in case those Nazis decided to attack you wouldn't have to carry around that big ass Garand. Third paratroopers liked the rifle because it was so lightweight and easy to carry around... I'm noticing a pattern here. These guns are lightweight and compact. Which made them ideal for most guard/patrol and paratrooping situations.

USAR--I agree the carbine was used a lot by officers, MP's and others not always in direct combat. The M-1 was the primary infantry battle weapon.

i am 100% with you
They should putt it in the "expansion" or maybee a patch or something....................................

Aleksandr Kalosnikov 01-21-2002 01:37 AM

I agree...I do remember that it was at the expansion of another WW2 game: H&D there it was to see with an open butt end.

it would have been cool to have them in the game but i guess they figured to put the garand in because it was the standard rifle, sounds obvious but still
