DOOM 3 DElaYED - ARE YOU EVEN SUPRISED?
[quote:2cdf0]In its quarterly earnings call, Activision announced several significant changes to its release calendar for 2003 and 2004. Most notably, Activision said that it will, "for planning purposes," assume that Doom 3 won't be out until early 2004, but reminded that "as you know, id decides when it ships, not Activision." At many occasions since E3 2002, id has said the plan was to release the game by the end of 2003, but id's Tim Willits told us in May that the game won't ship until the studio is happy with it.
True Crime, the free-ranging action game set in a satellite-photo-perfect rendition of Los Angeles, is also being delayed, and it will ship in late 2003 rather than in September. Farther in the future, Trinity, Grey Matter's sci-fi action game, will now ship in Activision's 2005 fiscal year, which starts in April 2004. Activision mentioned a number of new games scheduled for release in 2004, including a Tenchu game for the Xbox.[/quote:2cdf0] That just leaves HL2 with more time to embaress Doom. |
hey why are you complaining? everyone hates EA for releasing games before their even cllose to done. now your bitching because the company wants the game to be perfect for release? STFU & make up your mind people

First things first - eat me. Second, I couldnt give a shit when this game gets released I'm not gonna fucking buy it. Notice that there is ONE LINE devoted to the article where I give a very brief and succint opinion on the subject. I dont complain when any of EA's games get released because I dont play EA games other than BF and MOH. Why the fuck am I even responding to this post? The point my Scrotted friend, is very simply unsuprise at this game being pushed back. Save the kneejerk reactions when you're getting blown by your sister Susie. |
id are like Blizzard...they wait until they know they have a solid product before releasing it.
I waited and waited for Diablo II to come out, and when it did, I was delighted. I was happy that they took the time to make it right. I'd rather a company did that than release a game just to get it out the door on time. |
Simply meaning that ID saw what Valve had coming with the HL2 demo @ E3, and they pooped themselves saying "Our game can't do that!" So, they recalled it to add some spiffy new features "until the studio is happy with it".
|
I am not surprised, especially since ID never offically said that Doom III would be released before then. All we had to go on were rumors and speculation from E3.
Still saving my pennies for that new vid card for HL2. |
I think that id has shot themselves in the foot honestly. While impressive, the Beta that was released certainly doesn't have HL2's number. Not even close. I'd like to see some comparison shots between the two. And the fact that the video in HL seemed to run alot more smoothly than Doom only shows me how innovative Valve has been.
In regards to the delay, while I dont htink it'll hurt sales, it wont do much to that lead in that HL2 will have. |
I'm with ed on this one,
from what I heard (mostly from people here)HL2 has a good story. Doom games have been famous (maybe infamous) for having crappy storylines (ie. rift opens, one guy armed with pistol and shotgun has to save the world) |
so that's what d1 and d2 were about. the e3 alpha that i cupcaked evil: had pretty much nothing in them. guy comes down the lift, has a bunch of guns, go ahead and kill stuff.
