Freelancer

Anyone have the game? how is it? hows MP for it?

Slaggg 09-17-2003 11:21 AM

the MP is OK. You connect to someone's server, if you can find one that isn't locked or get permission from the admin to let your ass in. After that, it's pretty much just like the SP. You can go from system to system, picking up jobs. the only difference is the other players out there. Once they smell your new blood, they'll come gunning after you, in packs. Most MP players seem to all want to be 'Pirates', kind of like how it seems that so many fools are obsessed with being 'snipers' in MOHAA. Makes it a bit boring, and doesn't add anything to what the game COULD be.

I'd like to be independent in the game. Prolly a pirate position would be the right choice for me. Although pirates relie on people to steal from.

How much is the game?

Is their system jumping in the demo?

Whats a good/best ship? pic?

Is that juni mission only mission for demo? starting mission...

Whats illegal material?

Tystnad 09-17-2003 11:51 AM

That first mission is the first mission in the full game aswell, and yes, there is a lot of system jumping.
Both with police jumplanes and jumpholes (hidden in various places throughout the galaxy).
Here's a pic of a federal cruiser of some sort (pretty early in the game, and my ship was beaten up as hell). Linking it b/c of its size:

Freelancer had the chance to be a really awesome game. And it is highly addictive.. for awhile.

The game becomes extremely repetitive and it just gets boring doing the same thing over and over and over.

Tystnad 09-17-2003 11:58 AM

True, thats why i uninstalled it not too long ago.

How much? I bought mine from Best Buy for $30.00.

The best ship is the Sabre. You can get it from the Outcasts in Omicron Alpha I think. You have to be level 30 to buy it and it costs just over $500,000. It's badass. There is one ship that's better (the Titan), but I prefer the Sabre because 1) it looks much cooler and 2) all the guns/turrets are forward firing. The Titan has one turret that has to fire to the rear. If you're on the Outcast's bad side good luck getting anywhere near their base. They all fly the Sabre in that area and they WILL smoke your ass.

Illegal material is usually the Alien Artifacts. If you can get to Planet Manhatten without getting busted by the cops you can make a huge amount of money. I think they sell for about $1200/artifact there.

I would definately buy this game. I had a huge amount of fun playing it. One piece of advice: the story itself is short so do as many freelancing missions between story missions as you can/want. After the story missions are over the game continues, but it's just not as much fun afterwards.

The mp got pretty repetitive and I hate how you cant move your ship from server to server. new server = starting over mad:

Eve Online totally rapes Freelancer for depth and that "elite" feel.

Only problem is it's a MMORPG (costs $11.99 a month or something - doesn't bother me but I'll bet it bothers 95% of the members here biggrin: ) and it's not an arcade shooter like Freelancer, nor is it a space simulator. It's more like point and click (RTS style) but with awesome graphics, amazing depth and a great deal to do (as opposed to Freelancer, where you can only do so much before you're done).

Freelancer was fun for a demo but once I realised that, essentially, the demo is all that the actual game has to offer anyway, I didn't bother buying it.

If you're looking for a brief blast then get Freelancer. If you're looking for an all-out involving, ultra depth space trader game with combat, trading, mining and the like, then get EVE and give it a month free trial.

I'm so hooked I bought two EVEs and play two accounts at once on my PC biggrin:

The story? where that big ship gets hit we go on counter attack in trade routes?

if there ismore just tellme but don't tellme the story..

depth is ok yea the demo looks awesome the whole game must rock.
Repeating missions and things like that I don't really mind the ability to go where you want and do what you please in such a big enviroment I love. Thats why I reallylike Battlefield 1942.

Bazooka_Joe 12-10-2003 07:06 AM

Got my copy months ago, found out online cheats existed, got all of the best crap, got over it. The game is not all that good.

long coat 12-10-2003 07:10 AM

Tystnad 12-10-2003 09:29 AM
