SO TELL ME...WHAT MADE YOU ALL START PLAYING A WWII BASED...
 

Why did you start playing a WWII based game??

I took real interest in these type of games after I watched, "Saving Pvt Ryan" and I got hooked...but that is not why I started playing.

I started doing my own research on WWII and discovered that I had 2 family members who served in both campaigns of the war. My great uncle who fouhgt in the European theater and my grandfather, who is still living, fought as a combat infantryman on the island of Okinawa from the beach landing until they secured the whole island.

My grandfather to this day will not talk about his experience so I had to do the research on my own and what I discovered just blew my mind.

Well...long story short....after months of tireless research and 100's of hours on the net and in libraries...I discovered that my grandfather had earned 5 service medals which he had never received. So...I started writing letters to the VA and our state congressman presenting the eveidence that I had uncovered and they agreed to issue the medals....

So I took the medals....and a letter of recongnition that they wrote for him....found and purchased certain patches, insignias, and other various items he wore on his uniform and assembled it all in a display case...and on Christmas eve 3 years ago.....presented it to him.....in front of the entire family....it was the most awesome thing I have ever been able to do in my life.....for a man that answered his call of duty, like so many others who made the ultimately sacrifice, when he was only 18. He fought for me and for all of us so that we could enjoy the awesome freedom what we have today.

That's why I play MOHAA and why I enjoy WWII games.

I rented the original for PlayStation and have played it in all of it's incarnations since. My interest has nothing to do with WWII... I'm just a gamer.

Reverse for me... saw the movie of Omaha on fileplanet and got interested. Saw the demo out and DLed it. It was only then that I had an interest for WWII movies.

But, I'm like bane... I'm a gamer not a WWII buff.

Before my father died when I was six years old I remember him taking me to see "The Eagle has Landed" in the theater. He left behind a ton of books that I have since read. I still pick up a book at least once a month on the subject of WWII. Mainly major battles and infantry tactics. Personally Donald Burgetts books have made a lasting impression of the horrors of war.

I played every version of MOH from the ps-1 to X-Box, and I got MOHAA for the pc the day it was released. I also have all of the Commandos versions as well. Hidden and Dangerous was a good game as well.

I won't support EA anymore after the Spearhead debacle but I am looking forward to Call of Duty when it goes gold.

I tried DoD but never really got into it.

You could say I am more of a history buff than a gamer because I am into WWII more than anything.

I downloaded the demo to mohaa and hot hooked on it. It also got me very interested in WW2 and i have started collecting various guns from the WW2 era. I have A German K98K Mauser, A P-1 which is a post War model of the P-38 Pistol.I have A M91/30 Mosin Nagant Rifle, A Mk4 No1 Lee Enfield Rifle,A 6.5mm Carcano Rifle, I Have an M1 Garand on lay away. My brother has a Nagant Revolver. Mohaa Turned me into a WW2 freak!

I got into WWII games because i've always loved war. I know how dumb that sounds, but i always found war interesting. Ever since i was elementary school drawing huge battles on pieces of paper to playin mohaa now. I remember buying MOHAA the day it came out, i still play it today and i'm damn proud of how good i got at it. My granfather was also in WWII but i have no idea how to search for him and to see what he had done. If anyone could tell me how to, it would be a great help.

I always played "army" as a kid, but never was a real war buff. I picked up MOHAA on a tip from a friend that the game was impressive.

After playing the single player game through, I got really interested in WWII subject matter. I watched SPR for the first time (bought it on DVD) after playing MOHAA.

The rest is history, as they say.

I was interested in WWII stuff since before I could remember,

but I also like TASTEFUL shooters (as in opposite of Doom and Quake one-man-vs-horde-of-generic-zombies crap)
So I'm more into any shooters that deal with more or less real events (wars, counter-terrorism, etc) and shooters based on sci-fi that have a real plot (ie not Doom) like Jedi Knight.

I agree. Games that have "relavence" to events or topics either present or past give more of an emmercive experience while playing, it gives more of a sence of purpose rather than just a means of passing time.

I like the idea that games such as MOH attempt to instruct as to the meaning (historically) these battles played in our history and those that were involved. In some cases it may give a "feeling" as a textbook cannot, the sacrifices many have given.

With that in mind let us not forget that we are playing a game,,,,, but that these diversions are based on the real experiences of those who fought and died just so we can have the freedom to enjoy such diversions.

I always loved the history behind WWI or WWII. Started playing online games like doom. I hated playing inside tunnels and shooting laser guns. I wanted something more real. I wanted to play a game that you could roam around OUTSIDE. I started playing Delta Force and loved it. Then along came this WWII shooter. Not as open as DF but loved the weapons.

Nice, not many people would make the time or effort to do something like that. I became very interested in WWII after reading Citizen Soldiersand watching documenteries on the history channel about three years ago.

I agree with what bane said. I am just a gamer and wasnt after a WWII game specifically. I am after good game play and MOH had it. I think the succession was UT, Q3, then a few single player games - red faction, RTCW, and then MOH.

I certainly didnt think that my next game would be a WWII game but Call of Duty is the best game (demo) that I have been able to lay hands on lately, and has a very nice feel to it. Unless I am too entralled with HL2 to even look at it when it comes out.

My obcession with WWII began when i was 12 and was first introduced to Air Warrior for DOS. It was a multiplayer flight simulator game that grew 5 versions to Air Warrior 3D. In the end the game ended up supporting 50+ aircraft, and up to 350 players in one arena. I have found that since then any game that has some sort of historical plot to it also leads to a general education about the subject. Since the death of Air Warrior III I have shifted my focus from learning about the aerial combat over europe and the pacific to try to grasp an understanding of what it was really like for those who fought for our freedom on land and in the sea. I think that in the end the invaluable portion of gaming is the historical education one recieves. Having fun is just an added bonus.
