Slow like hell, $hitty PFS, high processor usage

PIII - 866 MHz/133 FSB, 512 MB SDRAM, AGP 4x, MX4-440/64 MB DDR/AGP 8x with the latest drivers, Win 2000 Pro, DX 9.0b - why is this crappy when I participate in battles with many players? My processor runs at 100% (99% MOHAA). The minimum specs tell P II 450MHz/128 MB/16 MB OpenGL Video, and the recommended PIII 700MHz/32 MB OpenGL Video.

What's wrong? fire2:

Welcome to MOH:AA and EA.

Never go off Minimum specs, they only represent the very slowest system the game can run on (and to run the game on those specs would mean frame rates lower than 5).

You're in the mid range as far as MOH:AA is concerned. Your PC will be able to handle the smaller maps with less than 24 players fairly well, but you'll still get a slow performance over-all.

I'm afraid that, in order to enjoy MOH:AA at 40+ FPS consistently, you will need to upgrade your CPU to Athlon XP or P4 tech. The rest of your setup is fine.

The reccomended specs for MOH:AA are something like a PIII 900 I think.

You still fall below that at the moment (and CPU = everthing with this game, so long as you have a decent GFX card).

You might get better performance by upgrading to a 128MB video card. I said might.

Nah, the CPU bottlenecks the whole PC.

With only a 866 Mhz 4 year old architecture CPU you're asking that 128Mb card to force a brick through the eye of a needle... Proverbially. It will make some difference, to the aspects of the game that are purely graphic intensive (rather than CPU) but that's going to be a monumental waste of money for just 2-3 extra FPS.

Start from the ground up. Buy a Motherboard and CPU, rebuild your PC (can learn how to online, it's easy - I tought myself using an online tutorial) and upgrade the peripherals after that.

Unless you got loads of money - Then just buy a new PC biggrin:

Get a Power-Spec 4985 at Micro Center. A 2.4Ghz Athlon W256K L2 Cache,256M DDR Ram,40G hd, 1.44 Floppy, 52x32x52 CDRW, intergrated nic, vid, and audio, and windows XP Home for $450.00. Comes with an ok keyboard and a crappy mouse. Put your video card in it and it should play. Better yet get a fx5200 video card ($100.00) and a Logitech MX310 mouse ($35.00)

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooo that card is total trash. If you buy it, all you'll be doing is throwing $100.00 at an expensive electronic door stop. Frame Rates are Terrible, benchmark scores are extreeeemmmly low, and worst of all... Mohaa textures don't render properly. Particurlarly on the 256mb card. I would suggest going with the Ati 9600 Pro, or 9700 for 50 bucks more.

As far as your pc goes... everyone is right to say that the processor is slowing everything down, but if your really tight for money, a memory upgrade would help if you not already maxed out. You can also try over clocking the FSB to increase performance. Just make sure you have the proper amount of cooling to support the higher temperatures. AND make sure you know how to reset CMOS if the PC refuses to boot after an FSB increase.

On a side note, if you can wait a month or two I will have a website on how to upgrage and build your PC "for dummies" complete with images, and video on the installation of all major components. + pdf manuals.

Thanks a lot fellas, I just wanted to make sure what is causind this bad performance. I was suspecting the processor but wasn't sure. Now I know that I need new MB + processor + memories. Appreciate! stupid:

For a motherboard, try the DFI Lanboy NFII chip set w/ an athlon Processor Nice performance for an affordable price.

i have a p4 2.8ghz with 512mb of ram, a raedon 9800, a 768/1500 dsl line, and 7200rpm drives, i dont have ANY speed probs.... i didnt have speed probs on my old machine either besides loading.

it has a 850mhz t-bird, 512mb of ram, and a gf4 420mx, a 128/1500 cable line, and 7200rpm drives.

it may be your internet speed, ram speed, or if u have a celeron, or duron, that may be the probs, those are both weak processors.

[GDC]_Polemarcus 09-22-2003 12:02 PM

just make sure your not underclocking your ram
