pakscape won't work
http://www.alliedassault.com/phpBB2/vie ... p?t=169000
i know it not in the right place but its a modding thing! |
.pk3 files are just zip files with a different name, so you can download winzip and extract files or create files with that. you just need to rename the file from .zip to .pk3.
this doesnt fix the pakscape but it should work. |
Quote:
you cant do that, there are paths and directories that winzip wasnt meant to create, you cant make a zip file and change the file type, its like trying to turn an mp3 to a txt... i had been trying to make pk3's with winzip for a while, pakscape is pretty much the only way to do it. |

i did it just now and it worked perfectly. the directories were preserved perfectly, and mohaa ran it. you can change the extension because a pk3 is a zip in disguise. the extension doesnt change the filetype, it just tells the computer what to use to open it. maybe it is a setting that preserves the directories or maybe we have different versions of winzip thats causing problems. |
I have seen people use packspace and those pk3 files look just totaly screwed.
|
pakscape was meant for making pk3 not winzip so what kind of dumbass is gonna use something that it wasnt meant for.....yeah it works but why the hell you want to use it when pakscape owns it worser?
|
winRAR works good too

pakscape is a much better choice even if you are creating zip files, but winzip or winrar is an alternative if pakscape doesnt work for some reason. it doesnt matter what anything is meant for, what matters is what works. |
I still think the windows xp build in compresion utility is the best one availeble for it just put in extra folder option then file types click on new add pk3 extension use advance tab and give it the type compressed folders and you can just open like any other directory and zip it like the best if you use copy to compressed folder.
