Ace of Spades

Hey, I was wondering if anybody here knows why the Ace of Spades was so prevelant in 'Nam. I've seen it in photos and shit, especially on helmets. Anybody know the relevance?

the ace of spades is the death card..it was used by a group of snipers called the widow makers. idea was they would get dropped off behind the lines for several days. find their target. when the time was right a well placed shot to the ear was made. the card was rolled up an inserted into the hole on the card it said....compliments of the widow makers.

every place these guys went they had to go in groups. there was a sizeable bounty for the head and patch of anyone wearing that widowmakers insignia.

It was probably taken from the RAF WW1 term of "Ace". Once a pilot had shot down 5 enemy planes he was considered an ace. They also painted the Ace of Spades on their planes beacuse it is the death card.
The Germans used it on their planes in WW2 and there was also an Ace of Spades squadron.
