GeForce Fx 5950? or the Radeon 9800 Xt?

I was just wondering what you people thought of these two amazingly kick ass graphics cards?
i myself had a chance to play with both of these on similar systems...

two buddies of mine... one bought the fx and one bought 9800 xt lol...
expensive shit... they always complain that theres is better...

cause my friend matts got a 2.4 800 mhz fsb p4 with 512 ram... and my friend coreys got a 2.4 mhz 533 fsb p4 with 512 ram... and they get about equal framerate... wierd huh?

http://www.nvidia.com for geforce..
http://www.ati.com for the radeon details

i was just wondering what you guys thought of these cards and which would you pick and why?

The pro is WAYYYYY better tha the XT, so i pickl the geforce.

Well, if what I read is true. It's best to go with a radeon, seeing how Nvidia is probably only going to have one update driver per year, so if you cant play a game cuz you need an update, you're shit outta luck. So i'd go with a Radeon

Radeons are always better than their competing GeForce cards. They are never even on the same level to be called a real competition either.

Radeon hands down.

I'd get the ASUS 9800 xt instead of the ATI one. You get more games and etc...

RADEON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brutal CarNage 11-16-2003 02:33 AM

Hmmm

Get Radeon... the Nvidia Cards are having problems running the HalfLife2 program dealing with d9. Only getting framerates of 30-40. They are blaming the game makers, lol. If you want a good investment for the future, Radeon may be the way to go.

nVidia...pfft oOo:

Himmler 11-16-2003 04:36 AM

i got the radeon one that your talking about.......wh00 it kicks ass

Tystnad 11-16-2003 05:55 AM

Read in a review that the 9800 XT is a selfclocking card..
That true, Himmler?
Anyways, id go with Radeon any day..
Ive had enough trouble with my GeForce ones..

Nvidia:

I've always stuck with Nvidia, and have never had any problems with it.

I use to only use Nvidia because their drivers where so much better then ATI. Since ATI got their act together with the 9700 pro, there drivers have been much better.

I would go with the XT or wait a couple of months to see what's around the corner.

go there run some free tests... see what your system would perform like with each card. Then make some informed decisions. Personally I would go with ATI. Much stonger company.

Nvidia's problem is their pipeline archetecture. If they just re designed it to 8 like ATi they would have a new line of cards almost 2x as powerful. But iuntil then they are kinda screwed.

ATi for sure. But for the price the XT isnt really worth the upgrade unless you run at 1600.1200x+res. So pro would be a good way to go if possible. If money aint that important to ya.

The ATI is a far superior all round card.

While the nvidia will beat the xt in synthetic becnhmarks, such as 3dmark, and games based on the Q3 engine (directx8 games), it has some very serious issues about running directx9.0 games. Teh nvidia might get an extra 10-20 fps in call of duty, but when the xt is running it at 90+ fps anyway, who cares. The FX cards very well might not even run HL2 or doomIII at playable speeds due to poor design for dx9 games.

I've always had nvidia cards until recently. I have no complaints about my 9800pro. In a related note, the xt is pretty costly. You are going to pay close to $200 more for the xt than a regular 9800pro and the gains in performance are marginal. There is definately more bang for your buck with the regular 9800 pro.

Damn, and I just ordered an XT too. It better be viable for a long ass time!
