'the eagle has landed' is a good one, but its not a large scale combat movie, its more suspense i guess.

A Bridge too far.... great escape is more of a prison break movie than a war, but it's breaking from ww2 prison camp with steve mcqueen... a&e has a good ww1 movie called the lsot battalion
so 1 movie already mentioned, 1 not really war, and 1 not ww2.... i am so useless |
my short list of classics:
Bridge Too Far, Kelly's Heroes, To Hell and Back, The Longest Day, Where Eagles Dare, Gun of Navarone, Force Ten From Navarone, Midway, and of course Sands of Iwo Jima, where I stole my name from. |
Midway
Tora, tora, tora Lots of goods ones mentioned already. |
I bought The Great Escape last night! A true story. A true classic. The DVD has a good documentary too. Steve McQueen, James Garner, James Coburn. Charles Bronson. and a host of great British actors.

If you're into adventure war flicks like The Great Escape and The Guns Of Navarone, get Von Ryan's Express. Frank Sinatra is the man. 'None But The Brave' and 'Never So Few' are also good Sinatra war flicks. |
