anyone in here a progressive metal/rock fan? i love all progressive music, soo many good bands... Dream Theater, Symphony X, Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, and so many more....i would also classify Rush as progressive. anyone else in here into progressive? if you havent heard any of those bands, please check em out, they are well worth it.

Just like to ask what progressive really means? Does it only apply to rock/metal?

they are also very good.
and stinger, progressive means long and flowing, like there are different sections to the song that transition into each other. most songs are usually at least 5 minutes. they dont have to be rock/metal, there is also progressive jazz which i love as well, and i guess techno could be referred to as progressive.

I *think* it has something to do with starting the song off with a single instument on a simple bit and then progressively adding on other instruments to the same bit to eventually makes it a ... song.

would u consider system of a down progessive then? Most of their songs start out slow and soft and suddenly get louder and a faster tempo.

No there more rock. Dl one of these bands songs and you'll understand.

BIG fan of progressive metal. Dream Theater, Symphony X, Rush...all great shit. You could put Iron Maiden in there as a huge influence on some of the newer prog metal acts.

Dream Theater are huge Maiden fans.

im a Dream Theater fan but i also love Maiden, i only own 6 of their cds (the good ones) though. im not a fan of blaze, didnt like that era.

and SOAD is defintely not under progressive, i put SOAD under Crap, although they have some good songs, but i hate the guitarists "oh look at me im special" fashion.
