Home Network problem
So I bought a Netgear router, plugged evrything that needed to be plugged. The host PC works fine, the 2nd one doesn't.I went through home networking set up on my PC,but still nothing.
What am I doing wrong ? Thanks |
Is the host computer plugged into one of the Router ports as well ? If so,
the second computer is not properly configured. Check your hardware and software settings and try again... |

what OS's are they systems?
do you have forced ip's on them? - i have a netgear router and i let the router assign the ip's mine = 0.2 2nd = 0.3 while the router = 0.1 if using xp on both systems, all you really have to do is "my network places" - then click "set up a home or small office network" then follow the steps and click on the hub option i think.. cool: |

I love that animated gif happy: |
1) Ping the router, if you don't get a reply then you know something is up on the host end.
2) If you can ping the router, pull up the command prompt and type ipconfig /all and see if your workstation is pulling an IP address from the router. And make sure the DNS server(s) are listed. 3) Type ipconfig /renew at the command prompt, wait a sec, and then repeat step 2. 4) Make sure the router is set to DHCP and that there are enough addresses to be handed out, and that your PC is also set to DHCP. 5) After trying the above steps, use the command prompt to try to ping an outside server, such as google.com. If this works, then the problem lies in your browser. Go to tools->internet options->connections tab -> setups and set the browser to run through a LAN. |

Relax, it was a joke. I set mine up on XP. (which was a breeze) 98 was difficult until I learned how to do it, but that was over two years ago. |
