Uninstalling ATI drivers

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread. ... d=33606840

for those of you with ATI's, anyone do this? i'm using like a 7 month old driver and want to upgrade, but am not sure if this is 100% safe for a radeon8500. i've never uninstalled before, only installed over

windowsxp for me

That looks about right. Uninstall the old drivers before you install the new one.

Seems a little complicated, if i were you id uninstall the drivers and get the program "driver cleaner" http://www.3dchipset.com/utilities/ati/ ... dclean.php

Does more or less the same job, uninstall drivers, reboot in safe mode, run driver cleaner, then reboot into normal xp and install.

I did that exact procedure last week, and deleted like 10 different sets of old ATI drivers that the registry cleaners couldn't find. I don't see a big difference in performance, but it defineatly cleaned up my drivers more.

Yeah, you really don't need to do all of that.

What I do

1) Uninstall the drivers from add/remove programs.

2) Reboot into safe mode, and unplug the network cable.

3) Run Driver Cleaner 2, and remove devices from Device Manager.

4) Optional- Run Reg Cleaner

5) Reboot and install new drivers.

That doesn't clean out all of the files.

Uninstall them, go into your c: and look for an ATI folder. That should have been deleted. Also, in your system folder are a couple of ati driver files that will not be removed unless you do it PROPERLY. Otherwise, you'll be getting problems and not knowing why. This is do to conflicts between older and newer files. Do it properly
