Help!
After clicking that "How Much Are You Worth" link yesterday my computer has gone downhill fast...I was bombarded with tons of pop ups and then as i viewed my system status (ctrl alt dlt) there were many programs running (about 20) when there should only be 7. They were titled such names as "akjl" "wsup" and so on.
Currently i have no antivirus software. I have downloaded 500+ songs, videos, etc... on kazaa, klite and limewire with no problems and about 2 months ago i deleted and have stopped using these programs. I have run AdAware and as of last night my computer seemed to be running smoothly but this morning was different. The computer I am running is 500mhz, win 98 OS. Anyone ever had a problem like this and have any recommendations besides get Anti-Virus Software? Here's a picture of what some of the messages looked like after i had to go through and manually "end task" all of the others. These 2 progs shown will not go away. http://home.ripway.com/2004-1/61542/wtf.jpg |
LOL
No antivirus + no firewall = bad idea. You can go start > run > msconfig and disable all the shit programs that are running at startup, and that will help a bit, but they will still be on your system. You have to go and delete all the shit running on your comp. You probably have 100 viruses and you don't even know it. I recommend a reformat and then install an antivirus program and firewall with win 98, or setup xp and run its built in firewall and an antivirus. |
Try a spyware killer before you reformat.
Google Ad Aware and/or spybot. Install them sumbitches, update 'em with the latest definitions, and clear away all that shite. I gotta feeling that's your problem. |
I like the "blacked out" folder on the bottom-right. pr0n hiding place!? biggrin:

everyone loves illegal stuff...its what makes the interweb worth while

update adaware fully, and spy bot fully as zoner said. That wil l kill them no problem. If not download a full version of adaware pro off the ares lite(download.com for ares lite). update the defintion fully and it will solve your probelm. I have the Pro version which beleive it or no for some reason detects more then the free one.

As i said...i ran AdAware 6.0, worked well until i turned it off then turned it back on. I will work on finding an update.
I have a firewall built into a router that my computer runs through for internet + printer connection. I basically gave up on protecting this computer once my family got a new one, but i never thought it would get this messed up after making it through like a year + of kazaa with no problem. As for the blacked out folder, believe it or not it is not pr0n or illegal stuff. The folder = my screen name which i dont want people to have... |
HAHA, damnit.
I just went through the thing Ninty9 suggested - getting rid of some of the startup progs. Well i guess i chose a wrong one to not load up because Windows has decided not to load. (im posting from another computer) |

Well you kind of need to know which ones are important, and which ones are garbage. Try looking through here: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&ie=UT ... nfig&meta= |
I just gotta laugh at myself on how stupid i am when it comes to fixing my computer. I thought i had the shitty programs figured out but apparently not...
Well either way, i need to brush up on my MS DOS skills and try to reinstall windows 98, and solve this problem. But that also means i have to reinstall sound cards, graphics cards etc... which were all a pain to do on this knock-off brand of a computer bought in '99. |
c:> format c:
then put in the win cd and restart. easy as pie. drivers are a bitch, but it shouldn't take much more than an hour or two to get everything running again. I reformat once ever 2 or 3 months. |
Format then get windows xp oOo:
