My computer is on a LAN. I have 3 computers on it. The hub, and 2 clients. I can run Gamespy on the hub computer but the hub computer doesnt run MOHAA. Does anyone know how to do port mapping so I can get through the firewall, and run Gamespy? I use Winproxy as my proxy program and I run on Windows XP (although I don`t believe XP makes a difference). Any help you people can give me would be is VERY MUCH appreciated. Thanks =D

uhhh man i bring my comp over to my freinds house and we play the demo all day long through gamespy..........
|
Could someone please post a reasonable answer?

do you have internet access fropm the tweo client pcs? if so, there is no reason why you chouldnt be able to load gamespy and MOHAA and play just fine.
what, exactly, are you having trouble with? and by hub computer, do you mean you are using a multihomed (more than one NIC) pc to route the LAN? -HG |
For hub I mean the computer that the internet access goes through. I have internet access but I can`t run Gamespy because it says it has a firewall problem. When I say internet access, I mean on all computers I have it.

I dont think Gamespy works on LAN because it is an Internet tool. Otherwize you have posted it wrong because I am not sure I know what u mean!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong.
What you're saying is that you have 3 computers on a LAN, and one computer connects directly to the internet. The other 2 computers can connect to the internet THROUGH the other computer. If THATS the case, the following is true. You cannot host a game on one of the client machines (a machine that connects through another machine.) and expect internet people to join it. However, other people on your LAN can join it. If you are on a client computer and wish to use gamespy to CONNECT to a server, then you should have no problems. If this is the case, answer the following questions: 1. Is there any firewall software running on the host machine (the machine connected to the internet.) 2. What do you use to share the internet connection? If you are using standard internet connection sharing that comes with Win98SE, WinME, WinXP, and Win2k, you should have no firewall problems. 3. If you use the host machine as an internet PROXY, you will not be able to use gamespy without setting additional settings. I don't even know if gamespy supports this. 4. If you can't get to the internet with the 2 client machines, then you won't be able to use Gamespy. Make sure everything is connected properly and that all the settings are right to allow internet connection sharing... or buy a cable/DSL router (if you have cable/DSL.) Hope this helps ya out. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif |
Winproxy is only good for sharing web traffic (port80) Performance wise a software router/firewall is not a good choice. Winproxy can get too involved forwarding opening ports for services. I would recommend buying a hardware router and then opening the required ports.
You will get much better performance and have better control over your in/out traffic with a router ( lynksys, netgear, hell everyone’s making them now) . Now some games just don't like being restricted ports I know Delta Force had problems running multiple clients behind a firewall connecting to a Delta force server. Also this game is a network resource hog. Unless your running a T! or OC3 (from work) then I don’t think it would be a good choice playing that many boxes from a cable/dsl connection Good luck Just reread your message. If your running a connection sharing program that is built into XP, that is not WinProxy. Your running a watered down version of WinProxy (very watered down version) I would recommend the hardware router. they are under a 100 bucks now and worth every penny ------------------ Not so Rude, RudeDog http://www.landi.net/rd.jpg [This message has been edited by rudedog (edited January 28, 2002).] |
Here are the port numbers I got from another thread a couple of days ago. Sorry to the person who put these up I forgot your name.
TCP 12203 default 12204-12206 UDP same as above Gamespy 6667,3783,27900, 28900,29900,29901 Dont know why gamespy needs all those ports?? Hope it's not spy ware http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ Not so Rude, RudeDog http://www.landi.net/rd.jpg |
what settings do u have in gamespy for connecting? Like is it set like a lan if it is then try the modem setting. I'm on a lan too and I just changed the setting to a modem in Gamespy and it worked. Go figure.

Sorry my setting is 128k ISDN, but I'm on a lan and it works fine. Setting it on lan or dsl or cable It wouldn't work for me. Good luck
