I don't play many games. But I expect to play MOHAA multiplayer a lot.

I have a Voodoo3 card, which I updated with the drivers and other soup that people recommended here. But all I have to do is see my roommate's Radion 7500 to know I want a new card.

I am on the edge of getting a Gforce3. But now a bunch of guys in multiplayer last night said that even though the Gforce3 clocks faster than the Radion 8500 but that the Radion 8500 actually LOOKS better, in terms of textures and tones of rocks and trees and skin and all that.

SOOOOooOOooo is that true? Is anyone truly familiar with both? Or is it like Pentium vs Athalon where personal prejudice colors everyone's opinion?

well i got a GEFORCE 2 mx and it works fine for me as long as all my graphics are set to medium... so i would go with the Geforce 3 because i have heard bad things about the Radion and my Geforce works great....

Well first off... people will ALWAYS say that they prefer what THEY own. It's the nature of Man to covet what he paid for, worked for or created.

That said, go to cnet, sharkeyextreme or some of the other websites that review and test hardware and take a look at their unbiased reviews and benchmarks for videocards and then make YOUR decision based on YOUR knowledge NOT someone elses.

$100 dollars says that the folks who told you to get a xxxx videocard.. own that videocard. So go read the info and make YOUR own choice.

BTW- My .02 cents would go toward a GeForce 2 or 3. The Nvidia chipsets are turned over every 6 months so updated drivers are non-stop in coming. Therefore even casual gamers have more options for optimizing their cards all the time. ATI can not claim to doing the same.

Also, keep in mind if you aren't also upgrading your mobo or cpu no amount of $$ or a great videocard will do jack in a system that's in need of a full upgrade/replacement. Word to the wise-big/fast videocard with slow cpu or mobo=BOTTLENECK.

Good Luck! http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

i have the Radeon 8500 and I am very happy with it. Dont listen to what everyone says about its drivers. Well worth the money, and a hell of a lot cheaper then the Geforce3. Its all in opinion. But I am happy.

I think painkiller44 makes a valid point. go with what you can afford. Try to make your own judgment based on valid sources like the links offered above.
also go with a company that offers good tech support and driver releases. This will always win in the long run

For what it's worth, I own a gforce3 64meg and a gforce 2.

well that was my point. All the independent reviewers said the Gf3 was the fastest, best fps all that stuff, but none of them really talked about QUALITY of the image, not in comparison to other cards.

That is what I am most interested in, I mean regardless it is going to be faster than my 16mb voodoo3.

I have a g3 ti 500 and my friend has a radeon 8500. We compared them at a LAN with virtually all the same settings. Not much of a diff in my opinion. They both looked remarkable but I was getting on avg slightly better fps. Not enough to really matter though. Either card is a score IMO.

wait till late feb before you buy anything.

the gf4s are really close, hell apple is already advertising them.

once those hit the shelves the gf3 and the ati 8500 will be half the price.
