How do I connect with my friend online?

We both have mohaa. Both Have xp home. Both are members of gamespy, with free accounts (basic membership). Both of us have dsl.

I want to host a game where just he and I can play each other. I'm completely new at this, so can you please walk me through it? In the game if I go to multiplayer and start a game, how does he know where to find me or connect to me? Please, detailed step by step instructions would be helpfull. Thank you in advance.

ill try and take a crack at this:

before you start your server, your friend needs to know your IP address. In order to obtain this goto start, run. Type in "cmd" and hit enter.
in the command prompt type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes. Write down your ip address and give this to your friend. Once you start your server tell your friend to connect that ip. If the console is not enabled on your friends game, tell him to goto Advanced options, and click the Console box. then to open the console press the ~ key. Now type "Connect IP" in the console without quotes, where IP is your IP address you gave him.

Hope this can help

How to connect with a friend online

A really low tech way would be in gamespy find your friend in player spy and invite him to be an online buddy. Anytime you or your friend are online it will say what game and what server they are playing on. If you want to play alone, host your own match and your friend can log onto Gamespy and just click the link and bam its just you two in your own personal server.
