Cracking a .bsp or Cracking up
 
I have a map i downloaded. I wish to retexturize the interors (walls, doors, floor, etc). It looks like the map uses all textures from original MOHAA pk3 files/textures. To change the textures would i :
  • 1. extract the script for the map
    2. follow the directory on the script
    3. extract the textures from my mohaa pk3 files
    4. retexturize the .tga files
    5. rewrite the directory of the script to go to the textures folder i would make in the new .pk3
    6. put my retextured files into the texture file i would create for the map's .pk3

    if this is the way to retexture a map, how do i crack the .bsp (the only file that is in this map's .pk3)

    if not, how can i retexture a map ?*
    what tools ? i've tried many so called .bsp editors (including scorpio's and the pk3 manage editor on here)



    *yes, the original author is going to get full credit for the map.

in short you cant mate cos you have tried the decompilers and no joy. The only other way would be to edit the textures that the map uses but that would fuck up stock maps etc.

Try downloading a hex-editor.

Ahh yeah you could hex edit the bsp file and change the texture names now THATS an idea!!

okay, i've tried editing the .bsp file and have no clue (even tried following a mapper guide backwards) so..........

what is the best mapper's guide for retards like myself ? i've tried everyone i could google and it's universally assumed you know something about mapping on them. i'm a retard skinner, not a coder BUT i figure in order to get the map i want for my clinic skin pak, i'm pretty much gonna need to learn.

the tools i currently have:
  • Mbuilder
    Mohaa Tools (Radiant & .bsp Mohaa Tools)
    Mohaa bsp to map
    xv132 Hex Editor
    PictureIt! (photo editing program i allready use for my skins)
    PakScape
    AutoMohaa Map Compiler
    MilkShape

    some of these programs i'm sure are redundant.

so in the end, i just need a really really good tutorial and/or have someone write up a tut explaining how to remove textures and edit textures allready in a map.

thanks anyone and everyone but i did it the old fashioned way; got a tut and then figured it out on my own; figure that's the way everyone does it anyways; i've got a 16'x16' room, anyone want to play MP ?! I can fit about 20 people before the fire marshall freaks out ! lol
