MiniDV Camcorders

So, my fiance wants a digital video camera, right? I figured I'd ask the community for some advice, as I have absolutely no clue about them.

I was looking at the DVD-recording ones, but they're a little too pricey. I'd need one that can transfer video to my computer using USB 2.0, since I don't have Firewire. I s'pose I could buy a Firewire card...

I also don't want to break zee bank.

I checked Future Shop and here're the models they list (that are in my price range of $500-$800):

Canon ZR80 MiniDV
JVC GR-D22U MiniDV
JVC GR-D32U MiniDV
JVC GR-D74U MiniDV
Panasonic PV-GS13 Digital Palmcorder
Panasonic PV-GS9 Digital Palmcorder
Samsung SC-D101 MiniDV
Sony DCR-HC20 MiniDV Handycam

Main criteria are:

- Under $800
- Doesn't suck
- Still photo capability
- Easy to use
- MiniDV
- Doesn't suck

It's gonna be pretty much point-and-shoot, so I don't need something that Martin Scorcese would buy.

I guess I'll just ask the pimple-faced nerds at Future Shop or Best Buy what they would recommend.

Any recommendations from you dudes?

The DCR-HC20 is 699.99, so yeah you can get 'em for under $800. Whether it's any good or not, I dunno...s'why I'm asking you guys.

I remember reading about cameras somewhere but the on thing you want to look for is size of the chip that intakes the light. Supposedly a lot of high quality cameras that are compact put in smaller chips and things come out a lot darker. I wish i could remember the exact name of the chip, but i can do some research.

Wooo HOOOOO!!!

My fiance's mom just emailed me and said that they'd like to give us $400 toward a camera as a wedding present! SCHA-WINNNNNG!!!

My fiance's mom is really involved in their church, who happen to sell Gift Cards for Sears as a fundraiser. I'm going to try to find a suitable cam at Sears to help them out. Gonna go see this one this weekend:

Comes with the accessory kit and everything. Hopefully it's a quality item.
