you lost me... what kind of math is this? Just algebra solving for y? What are the underscores for? And the numbers on the top and bottom?
EDIT: nvm you editted it

jujumantb 08-27-2004 04:17 PM

y=10

3/4y - 1/4y = 1/2y
then
1/2y=5
so 5/.5 = 10

that shouldn't really matter. Fraction bars mean division.

@/\/G3L 08-27-2004 05:00 PM

it equals 2.5

3\4y - 1\4y=5
subtract them
1\2y=5
divide 1\2y by 1\2 and do the same to 5
thus
y=2.5

close, but 5 divided by 1/2 = 10 not 2.5. You are mulitpying when you should be dividing

I Agree the answer is 10. Both sides of the equation bust be multiplied by 2 to isolate the y. Multiplying the left side of the equation leaves you with y, and multiplying the right side of the equation leaves you with 10. Thus y=10.

just make all the denominators the same and its easy oOo:

( 3y - 1y = 20)
(2y = 20)
(y=10)

@/\/G3L 08-27-2004 08:48 PM

wtf didnt see that other y. oOo: yep its 10.
