to update drivers you need to uninstall the old one first right?

You don't have to, but it's highly recommended.

sometime the new drivers ur installing will automatically delete the old ones for u but do what akuma said,its best

after uninstalling driver, get a program called "Driver Cleaner" it will scan and delete anything left over from the uninstall.
